I have a DSM 300 (fishfinder / depth sounder) that has developed a problem. Basically, it won't stay on network. I was going to send it off to Raymarine to have it fixed for a flat rate of $300 when I stumbled into a good deal for another one considered used but really new so I went that way. Anyway -- so now I have this unit which costs about $650 new that someone could get re-conditioned by Raymarine for $300 so I'm reluctant to trash it.

If anyone wants it, let me know and I'll ship it to you. The manual(s) are missing but could be downloaded from the Raymarine site or they'd probably send them.

If no one wants it, it gets recycled as electronic trash.

Here's an alternative. When my Raytheon sounder got fried by a power surge, I figured there was some protective sacrificial component that needed to be replaced, and I was frustrated that the only option seemed to be factory refurb - no component level troubleshooting and repair. Then I found this place in the Portland area. I think my fix ended up being about $50. http://www.rodgersmarine.com/

The DSM 300 has a nice set of diagnostic tools built in. Basically, if all is working well, a LED flashes green. If not, and the unit has a connectivity problem you get a flashing amber and the timing and sequence of the amber tells you what the problem is. If the unit has failed, it flashes red. In my case, the diagnostics appear to be right on with the problem and the factory agrees.

Thanks anyway but I don't think there is a cheap fix. Again - if somebody is interested, may be an inexpensive way to go. If not, it's electronic scrap.
