Auto Trim Tabs

Has anyone tried the Nauticas Smart-Tab SX series. My CD 16 Angler came with them, but I finally realized the shocks were blown out. I just called the factory and ordered some new ones and will be anxious to try them. The previous owner of the Rose Bud said they made a huge difference and he loved them.

On very small boats--such as inflatables, the auto trim tabs may be of some value. For boats even the size of the 16 foot C Dory, you are far better off using a variable trim tab--either electric or hydraulic. This allows for dynamic trim from side to side, as well as adjusting the for and aft attitude of the boat as the sea conditions demand.

Better to get better weight distribution, than a bandaid as the "auto" trim tabs. Also you may find better results with a foil, such as the Permatrim, which attaches to the outboard's antiventillation plate.

Ditto what Bob said. Not suitable for anything over about 12 feet.

I have finally gotten used to my Nauticus Smart Tabs. Use them on the lowest possible setting. Weight distribution is key. I now try and keep only the gas tank on the passenger side full and try and put things like coolers etc in the middle of the cabin area. I also put in a level to see if the boat seems to be listing to one side or the other. Often when fishing alone I will simply stand and pilot from between the seats.
