AURORA ACTIVITY HIGH

As many have probably heard, there were some large solar storms a few days ago, and the electro-magnetic results are now arriving pm Earth. Aurora activity is now high. The farther north, and distant from town lights, the better the possible display. For us farther south, with dark sky and clear sky we may see a nice glow to the north.

Several times we have seen the aurora as far south as Utah (even Florida, off the cockpit of Halcyon, once). So for those interested, tonight and the next few, could be a possibility - best chance in the past five years. Keep an eye to the sky.

Living on top a hill in rural SW Washington we have good chance to see the "show" from home. Most likely we will head up into the coast range to the west of us. That will put us about 2,000 ft higher and to the west of any Seattle light pollution.
The weather weasels (thanks for the name Jim) tell us it will be clear and cold. Perfect.

Living in Connecticut, aurora's a rare, but in the early 1980's, I saw a spectacular one that extended from the horizon to directly overhead. The whole sky was on fire, alternating and pulsing between the colors red and green. I hope that we all will get a chance to see something like that again so long as it does not disrupt the power grid.
