We are all well aware of the hazards of tsunamis, after the event in the Indian Ocean and, more recently, in Japan. They are rare events (Black Swans) but certainly can have a horrific effect on boaters.

We have discussed possibilities along the west coast of the US and boaters there should be aware of the hazard and know precautions to be taken.

However, C-Dory boaters along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts perhaps assume there is 0 risk of a tsunami. Not so. More rare, far less probable, but risk is not 0. A Black Swan could occur along these coasts as well.

Recently, Geology.com has had an excellent summary article on Atlantic tsunamis and so thought it prudent to put up a post so folks along that coast could read about past events and be aware, if interested. Not to create fear, simply to allow friends to be forewarned, if they are interested.

Great info Bill, thanks for posting. When I went to that website, an ad popped up for EMERGENCY SURVIVAL KITS.

I think I just found a present for each of our girl's families. Lots of different sizes for different sized families and groups. I'm sure one could assemble the same things but it would be a lot of trouble and this is neatly packed in a 5 gal. Don't mean to hijack your thread Bill, we'll take it elsewhere to discuss.

Thanks again.

Charlie
