Assistance needed in Seattle

Ok, We need some immediate assistance.

We live in Iowa, my wife’s Uncle is in the Swedish Hospital (in Seattle) and soon to be in a Hospice facility.

This illness came on last week, with delayed flights and the holiday, Connie could not contact here Uncles Attorney, who, we now find out has moved out of the area.

We need a recommendation of an Attorney in the are that can help Connie with her Uncles final affairs.

I don't know of any attorneys, but I did want to send on my best wishes and condolencences. I lost my mom this yr and my father is quickly going "downhill", so I know what you and your wife are going thru.
 
A “BIG THANK YOU “ to everyone, the process is started, Connie/Uncle Lester now have an Attorney in their corner.

Next item on the agenda, is to find “not for Profit charities” that will pick up items at Uncle Lester's house as they are accumulated.

Today Uncle Lester is under comfort care and will soon be transferred to a Hospice facility.

where is uncle lesters house? Many local churches run second hand shops that will pick up. I know one in kenmore and one in the marysville area. I could find out the nearest one with location.

I've always been partial to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Along with American Veterans (AMVETS) they willingly pick up for resale in their "stores" to benefit veterans in need.

Next in line is the Salvation Army which I also admire for their selfless work without "beating their own drum" so to speak. Watched them deliver free hot lunches to the folks working during hurricane Camille in 1969, slogging through the mud while the Red Cross never left their warm trailers and sold the food they received free. Soured me forever on the ARC.

Usually there are city sponsored groups helping the homeless and/or impoverished very locally. Hopefully someone close to your uncle's area will direct you.

Salvation army will pick up. You can schedule it online. You don't even have to be there when they are coming to pick up. Just leave it in the driveway with a sign on it (assuming you are in a safe area). I did it last month and was a breeze. They even left me a receipt for tax purposes.

All the suggestions have been helpful and greatly appreciated.

So far, Connie has an Attorney and items have been donated.

Uncle Lester did pass away last Thursday. At ninety two and with the pain of pancreatic cancer and more, it could be a gift for all concerned.

Now the big job for Connie to dispose of his estate.

Being in Iowa has it’s advantages but taking care of an estate in Seattle will require us to search out assistance and direction when we can.

Uncle Lester was a collector of movie related magazines and books (mostly biographical) since the thirties when he was a kid in South Dakota.

There may be as many as 800 books, stacks of magazines etc. all in superb condition, individually wrapped and preserved.

Of course there are CD’s etc. but since they would be more recent, I assume there may not be as potential for having value.

Anyone have suggestions how and who would be a way to approach this colossal project (auction/s, buck merchants or whatever).

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

My friend cliff had to place his mother is assisted living. when he did he used a local company that priced everything for him and sold it for him. all he had to do was pick up the check. Now their job is to get ride of everything not necessarily get the best price. They also clean up the whole house afterwards. I just called cliff but it may be a few days before he gets back to me depending on where he is right now.

Thank you all for your messages when Connie was needing a Lawyer.

A Lawyer has been secured and the process of settling Uncle Lester's estate is under way.

Connie has been to Seattle twice and is getting the property cleaned out, getting ready to list it for sale.

It would seem prudent, to have the property appraised by a certified appraiser before being listed for sale, so there would not be any question of how the listing and sale was handled?

Anyway, any suggestions who to contact to do the certified appraisal?

If there is a will with estate instructions, then follow them. If not and you are the legal executor then I ask consult attorney esp if multiple persons involved and probate regulations. BTW It is quite a honor to be named an executor in someone's will. I was involved in 4 estates with 2 as the estate executor. One was simple and all parties were agreeable and didnt need an attorney and probate process was straightforward.
The last one lasted over 2 years, I needed an attorney and a CPA then later another CPA specialist to correct some errors. For real estate, I started with a full time Realtor with 10 yrs or more experience and well versed in residential and commercial markets.

I called and email them and asked to be
contacted in a week so they can prepare a proposal. In 07 the real estate market in Indiana was terrible and I changed Realtors for the third time. The last guy said my best option was to lower the price and get the house in move in condition. I spend $15,000 on repairs, updates, etc and my wife and I spent several hundreds of hours of our time on landscaping, cleaning, wall paper removal, painting, repairs, etc. Then came the vandals b/c the house was unoccupied and home owner insurance was very expensive and difficult to find an insurer
( if I said it was occupied then insurance was easy. I didnt select this option) then a flood in June 2008 and the house was a total lost.

Last Realtor was a former teacher who started selling in the summer and provided what I call a full service to the customer (me) He called and emailed, had open houses, drove past the house to check the lawn and later the vandals, and constantly monitored new listing and homes sold. A true professional Realtor
