Ask Congress to reform renewable fuel standards

Boat US has posted a link to send a letter or email to your congressional representative to support a bill to cut the amount of alcohol mandated to be in US gasoline.

I filled out the link and now I can't post the link without including my personal info. Can a C-Brat post the link on this thread? We all need to support Boat US on this legislation.

I just heard a "blip" on the news last week about how the farming (ag community) is pushing for higher ethanol content, citing that corn production should be increased to increase income for producers. Currently there is about 50% of corn production that is going to fuel use, according to that news bit, and production increase would put more fallow ground to use.

Just think how more ethanol in our fuel system could increase jobs for mechanics, engine part producers, towing services and even lawyers. It may also drive up the price of Corn Flakes, due to lack of supply for food grade corn, and it could have an adverse effect on farmers who grow stock, (cattle, pigs, and fowl), who would have to pay more for corn due to the decreased availability, (the supply and demand phenomenon in play), all because somebody came up with the idea of burning food instead of fuel. 8)

I'm filling out my form and sending it now. thanks for passing this along. Thanks to BoatUS for their commitment to the boating community.

Harvey what is the soure or your rumor? What fallow ground? You might be surprised to find that those who farm the land, despise ethanol just as much as you do. The feed use of the corn biomass has been fairly consistant, but the ethanol use has increased. Look to the ethanol and big grain lobby, not the farmers. Farm land hit all time highs because of the high prices for corn (and some soy land was diverted to corn use, also raising the cost of soy. A good farmer rotates his crops, each year to preserve the nitrogen balance in the soil. ) The corn prices were up for a few years--but are down a bit currently. Look to the real soure of the problem--the people your elect to repreent you and do YOUR bidding!

Beat up the government who mandate the high ethanol--not the farmer who grows it! I farm corn--and actuallly my profit is down recently--because of the high costs of fertilizer and pesticides, seed stocks etc.

Bob,
The source was the morning Ag Report on the radio. You have probably heard the same one, the guy talks really fast, lists "~corn up, soybeans are down, pasture grass is 85 percent dry and such and such showing ....." I know this is pretty vague but what I posted was what I got from his report from my memory.

You are right not to blame the farmers, and I have no intention of doing that -- I have family who have been making their livings for going on 3 generations now, and I'm sure it is much more political than I can get into, but my guess is that the politicians from the corn belt who were elected by their constituents are doing what their constituents are pushing for. And those politicians probably claim to be farmers too.

I don't know anything about the farmers despising ethanol. I do know several who are using "biodiesel fuel" and several government agencies who are doing so.

The big issue is that we don't need more ethanol in our fuel, and though we don't want it, what you and I have to say about it probably won't have much affect, we are going to get it anyway, ("The Govnment is here to help us, right?") Thus the somewhat tongue in cheek paragraph about the increased jobs for mechanics and such.

I think the idea of requesting our Representatives in Congress to reevaluate the ethanol issue is a good thing, and whether it is made from corn or grain, it is still harmful to so much machinery that it's use needs to be dissuaded.
