Article About Pat's Retirement!

Nice article, Pat! You've said many times that you enjoy the work... but as R-day gets closer, can't you just feel the excitement building?? Enjoy!

Best wishes,

One of Pat's many accomplishments as City Attorney is the wonderful Snoqualmie Point Park, just across I-90 from the casino. Congratulations on your retirement Pat, and thanks for shepherding to fruition our favorite spot in the Northwest.

Yes, Joe (Sea Wolf), the end of an era and a fine record of career accomplishment , success and public service.

BUT -- the end on one era is the beginning of another -- NOW -- the glorious (and well-deserved) retirement years. HOORAY - Whatcha going to do with all the freedom of choice and time? Lots of boating for sure -- lots more travel?

Our experience with friends has been that those who have the most interests and who have thought out what they want to do with the new freedom have the happiest time in retirement -- we know you are full of ideas -- care to share any that we may not have heard about? -- like a trip to Antarctica, or a dive with your bride to the depths of the Atlantic Trench, or a hike along the San Andreas Fault, or a Teach America position in Northern Scotland? Or maybe travel the world to observe every species of whale? Limitless choices at the Candy Counter of Life, eh, Pat? -- and you have a very imaginative mind ... and a gal who can also suggest some good ideas. GO FOR IT! How about celebrate by taking off during the month of January -- rent an R.V. and 'cruise' both islands of New Zealand (too cold to take your boat in January to Alaska, and NZ is comfy warm then). AND they make GREAT BEER! YEE HAH! -- now there's an idea for you -- travel to every continent with the goal of sampling the best brews on each!! BYE! and CONGRATS, BUDDY

Nice write-up and great career Pat! The time that you've been counting down has finally come. No one deserves it more than you.

Congratulations on your retirement!

Congratulations Pat -- enjoy your well deserved retirement.

Funny how our careers are mirror images. I served in the Marine Corps versus Peace Corps, took the LSATs in Delaware, entered Northwestern School of Law in August 2003 and graduated Christmas 1975 by attending summer school, admitted to Indiana Bar in 1976. While a student I started my legal career as a bill drafter and researcher for the Oregon Legislative Counsel in 1974, went to Indiana Legislative Council in December 1975 upon graduation, and became a State and Local Affairs Attorney for DuPont (aka a lobbyist) in April 1980. Now I am President and CEO of the Nevada Bankers Association and work with state, federal and local governments on financial services issues. I am working with my Board of Directors to find my successor and transition into retirement either in mid 2014 or in June 2015 after the next 120 day legislative session.

I will be 67 July 9, 2014, so it is about time to get off the roller coaster and enjoy our 7 (soon to be 8) grandkids.

I do drink beer and my next significant purchase is a boat to use on the Delaware shore!

Thanks for all the kind words! Marty, you are so right about Snoqualmie Point Park. And you can get a bench there, and you can have your inscription "Don't just do something, sit here!"

First order of business will be settling into Birch Bay, but yes, more boating, fifth wheeling to the sun, visiting grandbabies and road trips are definitely in our future! Only definite plan is Lake Powell in September, if there is any water, then on to the Little Loop and down to Apalachacola, if Two Bears pulls that one together!

Pat, my family has promised the bench when I "pass". Enjoy all those places you will go. When you come home you will have a place to rest.

Nice article, Pat, and Congratulations. I remember reading the thread where you started the countdown and thinking it was a long way off, Like to forever. And here it is, so close you can count the days on two hands. Go, and enjoy.
