Around the Americas

Although not C-Dory related, this 28,000 mile adventure involves a basic crew of three - periodically augmented by primarily educators and scientists - sailing all the way around North and South America.

Starting in Seattle, Washington they sailed a 64-foot steel boat clockwise around the Americas taking just over one year (13 months I believe it was) to call attention to the plight of the oceans.

Anyway, I initially caught part of this on TV and then found the entire hour-long video on their website.

Check it out.... great stuff. See ttp://www.komonews.com/news/local/112567364.html which has a brief article and the YouTube video.

Also see the project website at http://www.aroundtheamericas.org/ .

Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Hope everybody has a great 2011 and hope to see many of you at the upcoming SBS (Seattle Boat Show) CBGT!

Take care,
Dan & Tanya

I saw that show on TV this weekend. It was quite enjoyable. Since one of the crew apparently previously did the NW passage on a sailboat, I was wondering if George Hone knows him personally. I imagine it's a relatively small community of people who do such things.

I've not met Mark or his crew, just know of his adventures. I posted an email to their site when they were preparing to leave for the Northwest Passage as I got the feeling from their plan they were just going to breeze on thru as it was all open due to "global warming" I suggested it isn't as easy as that and they found that out. I think they were surprised at how hard it actually was. Well planned and executed voyages however. Makes good tv, George

Dan,

I missed the TV program but have seen some news clips on this along the way.

Thanks for finding it and posting it here.

Lot bigger boat than George's trip.
