Harvey, he's in CA, not AK...

Charlie, You are right, the interested party, (LarryEhrhardt), is in CA, .......BUT, the Tom Cat is already in Alaska. SO.........Go up there, ( in Ketchikan, AK), take a 4-5 week check ride (after the appropriate documents are filed and the proper exchange has been made of course), and save taking the Cat to AK for the cruise, then pack it up and take it south and the Alaska trip -- for this year --- is done.

Just trying to save satchley some $$$ and increase the fun factor.

Lots of incorrect information in the Yacht World ad. Weight is underestimated by about a ton and fuel capacity is 150 gal. And it's about $ 15,000-$20,000 overpriced for the minimal equipment included. Good luck in your search.

Roger-

Yes, I noticed those, plus:

"Original owner with 10 year hull warranty."

(2007 model, so hull warranty extends to 2017!)

Looks like the info was copied from a number of different places without any editing! :sad

Thanks for keeping an eye out for me guys. I agree it is super overpriced for that I will just buy a new one. In a perfect world I'd love to find one with Honda engines And the rear Steering controls. I'm starting to see there's not too many out there for sale though. I guess the people that have them really love them.

I don't know about "super overpriced" but I'd agree with over priced given current market conditions. However a new one with similar equipment will run you at least $135k maybe more. The price of all the raw materials has gone up.

Those of us who do have one, do really love them but the basic problem is there hasn't been that many made (especially relative to the 22' CD). The Tomcat 255's only went into production around 2006 and the economy started to tank about 2 years after that. I'd guess that there's less than 100 made to date.

Roger thanks for that info I've been trying to figure out how many were actually produced and no one could answer that question for me. I have a quote for a new one through Catalina yacht sales for$ 135k delivered with all the options that I want. The problems with the couple that I've seen for sale for example the one in the link is that it has that big AC unit on top and I just don't need that so right away I'm faced with major modifications of the boat that drive the price up even further. As well I really need the outside steering controls we do a ton of rock fishing and that would just be super super useful to have.
So I take it you own one of these correct? Tell me how you like it and how it handles and really sloppy sea conditions??

Hey Roger I sent you an e-mail. After that I read your profile and it is so funny I was just up in Squim a little while back looking at a Radon for sale ( The Blue Dog ). Anyway I hope to hear from you.

Yes, I own one and I do a lot of fishing with it. I don't have a second helm station and I do catch plenty of rock fish. However, I'm generally not fishing that deep for rock fish (typically, I'm in 60-100' of water and the area where I fish we can't fish in water deeper than 120' to protect yellow eye rock fish). So I don't really feel a second helm station is necessary for that kind if fishing but I understand the desire for one. What I typically do is 1) Find fish, 2) figure out which way the wind/current will take me, 3) Go updrift of the fish and take it out of gear 4) drop lines so that they're on the bottom prior to me drifting over the fish. I can manage that with a standard helm station inside the cabin. In addition the cockpit is big but it's not huge so a second helm would take up some important space that I'm not sure I want to give up.

As for "really sloppy seas" - different people have different definitions of really sloppy. 2-3' of anything is nothing in the Tomcat. I've fished in some conditions where I would have stayed in port in my previous 22. I was out this summer in 6' swells that had an 8-9s period and we had winds that came up to 20-25kts. That got pretty sloppy and I could only troll in the down-wind/down swell direction but I could still troll. However, it wasn't fun and the fishing (for albacore about 55miles offshore) wasn't very good (only got one and had the occasional gallon or so of water fly into the cockpit when I got sideways to the swells. I did manage to run back in at about 18kts in those conditions but it required a good bit of effort on the helm/throttle. I've also fished/motored through some very confused 4-5' waves at the end of the strait of Juan de Fuca. Again, not fun but I never felt like I was in particular danger. I'm pretty confident the boat will handle far more than my stomach can.

The boat is a great platform for bottom fishing as it's very stable side-to-side. It's also drives like it's on rails. E.g. a hard turn in either direction and the boat stays flat and level through the turn. As a result it doesn't turn as quickly at speed as a mono-hull so one has to plan a little farther in advance to miss crap in the water.

Larry,

Recently a guy named Dennis Nemick had a Tomcat listed for sale on this site.
I couldn't find the original post.

I did send him an email requesting some pictures and he responded in kind.

The Tomcat, I believe was a 2007....I think he wanted somewhere around 85000 for it....the boat was/is located in New York. dnemick@yahoo.com

If you pm me with your email address, I will forward you the email he sent me with pictures, or you could email him yourself. I do not know if he sold the boat or not.

Regards,

Larry,

You probably already know this but in case it's new's: We have two Rogers here who have TomCats. Roger (Dreamer) from Sequim, who is a cruiser, and Rogerbum, from Seattle(?), who is the fisherman, (top of the line). Both of these Rogers know their TC255's pretty well, and what they are swaying, you can take it to the bank. On the other hand, there is Captain Charlie, who had 2 TomCats at the same time for a while. I think those TomCaters might be even more passionate about their boats than the average C-Brat.

Good luck with your search.
