Arch dimensions

Hey guys!

I am having an arch made and I am interested in some dimensions with regards to aesthetics.

Can you tell my what the width of the arch for those of you that have them? Not the gunnel-to-gunnel width, but the fore-and-aft width of both the feet and the top where the radar mount plate is.

How much angle towards the back are the legs on yours? Forward one is more than aft, of course.

Thanks for any help!

An experienced fabricator will take all the appropriate measurements directly off your boat. Because of all the angles and curves on the cabin roof, close is not good enough, if you want a good fit.

Also, consider whether you might ever want to carry an inflatable dinghy on your roof. If so, it's really nice to have the pontoons slide under the arch.

From center to center of each foot, fore & aft = 12"

Rear angle ~70*
Front angle ~ 55*

From cabin roof to mounting plate ~7.5" We have a "short" arch.

Yes. As John knows, we are dealing w/ this now. The radar will not shoot through the wood/alum on the dinghy stern. I have been told it will shoot through the PVC material, but I'm gonna do some testing in my driveway. I am having Tanner Man. make me a custom radar mount as we speak, hence the testing for lowest height possible. Not cheap either, so take that into consideration prior to having one made.

Several fabricators make arches. Find a picture of one you like in the photo albums, go the photo owner and ask where they got it. Alternatively, go to the factory and ask them if they have a source.

Put this

Radar arch AND fabricator

Into the search box at the top of any page and a wealth of info will come up. Don't forget the caps on "AND" or you'll get more than you want.

Thank you all very much!! localboy - the measurements were very helpful.

I measured and made the height appropriate for our dingy/kayaks.

I made a drawing here (http://www.thebilge.com/tmp/ArchDrawing.pdf) that I will give to the fabricator.

He is a local welder that has been recommended, but quite a way from our boat which is in a lift.

Thanks again Brats!

If I could add something. Have him put the appropriate holes in the rear tube for running wiring thru the arch while he's fab'ing it, based on what you plan on mounting.

We have a large oval hole in the center under the plate for running radar wiring and I drilled holes under each side to run antenna/VHF wires. Easier to do it while he's doing it vs trying to do it on the boat.
