Apple vs Android

For several years I have used an Android tablet to run the Navionics navigation app. I've been very pleased with the operation, which I run in tandem with my old Raymarine C80 MFD. I may soon be in the market for a new tablet and this time in the mix I am considering a cell compatible version of the new iPad Air. For some reason I have a vague memory that the Navionics program has more functionality in the Apple operating system than in Android. I have no idea if this is correct or not. My uneducated mind thinks the program should work the same regardless of which system/tablet it is running in but I really have no idea. Can those of you who have experience in this regard help me out? Additionally, any feedback on which operating system and/or tablet you personally think is best would be most appreciated. Thanks!!

I prefer MxMariner on Android. Don't know if there is an iOS version. MxMariner lets download the charts for offline use (e.g. NOAA charts) and can include the Active Captain database.
 
I've an older (4 years old?) iPad and several Android devices, all running the latest version of Navionics. If there's a significant difference between them functionally, I've not seen it.

The devices themselves - I lean Android, the iPad no longer gets used. Since I use Navionics only as backup/supplementary navigation, I like the smaller form factor of the 8" Android tablets. The Samsung Tab A has the integrated GPS chip and can be had for under $200 new.

Also, you have many waterproof options with Android. A small, slick setup I use on both motorcycle and the boat: A Kyocera Duraforce Pro. Totally waterproof, available used on Swappa.com all day long for under $100. Toss in a pay as you go SIM, and you've got an awesome all-in-one backup navigation/communication device for your ditch bag.
 
I appreciate the feedback! Good to know the Navionics operation is the same. I have been very happy with my 8" Samsung tablet and the Navionics app, especially now that it includes Active Captain details. It makes a nice compliment to my old Raymarine C80, plus as needed it allows me to have the tablet running charts while the C80 is displaying radar. I generally like to run the tablet as a navigational backup though since we are rarely in weather requiring the use of radar.
