Apostle Islands (area) Gathering? Why not?

I read with interest, Todd England's entry “Trips for 16' C-Dory's” and have always been very interested in visiting the Apostle Islands area.

So why not have a gathering there?

Who, where and date is all that is needed, let those attending make it up as they go along.

Any volunteers to head up this adventure?

I have thought for some time that gatherings could be made up “on the fly”, (last minute, impromptu) with good communication and some one (boots on the ground for eyes and ears) to pave the way.

Any input, suggestions, let’s try to do this as a group effort and see what happens.

Best regards,

I've cruised the Apostles via sailboat, kayak, and my 22-Cruiser. It's a great place. Bayfield itself is a wonderful community with great restaurants and shops. The Chautauqua Big Top is only a few miles away, and they used to have a free shuttle from Bayfield; don't know whether they still do. Cruising around the point to Cornucopea from Bayfield is worthwhile, with a stop at Sand Island campground and small marina, and the National Seashore, a fairyland of caves and rock formations best explored in a sea kayak. Madelaine Island has a great museum. My favorite restaurant in Bayfield ls Maggies, serving the greatest whitefish livers and peppers you'll find anywhere.

Connie,
What a great idea. My dance card is full. But Ramone from the boat (Chiquitita) I think knows the area quite well. We met Ramone and his wife Laura who had great ideas and know the whole area quite well. He might be a candidate for the clip board and whistle to help with the event. Bayfield Marina would be a great spot and reasonable. As I remember the marina's fuel dock has no ethanol in the fuel. Good showers and small store right at the marina. We had a nice slip with parking right in front of our boat for our truck. The boat ramp is two blocks away. The marina and the town's restaurants are all in walking distance. Madeline Island about five miles away, you can take the ferry or go over and dock or anchor and dink to shore. Tom's Burn Down Cabin a bar/ rest is supposed to be a spot not to be missed but we missed it. It did get rave reviews from the locals. Many campsites and anchorages available at the countless islands. Great fishing! Docks at some of the bigger islands. Something for everyone. Very pretty place. Fishing charters availbale if you wives don't fish. Make sure your trailer is not over 8.5 feet. The State Police and local police are vigilant about over width boat trailers and the local speed zones. As mentioned before go to Maggies for the Whitefish Livers, good stuff. The people in this area are among the nicest you will find. About 500 miles north of Chicago. From the east it's a pretty drive if you go up thru Michigan and over the Mackinac Bridge and head west along Lake Superior's shores. See a nested photo album in page two of Will-C's photos titled Apostle Islands.

Have sent a message to Ramon & Laura, asking if they would “volunteer” two heading up a gathering in the Apostle Islands?

We will see.
