Any Members of America's Great Loop Cruisers' Association?

We've got the perfect boats for the Great Loop.Yes CDs and Ventures are smaller than the vast majority of boats that do the LOOP but that gives us many advantages. We found that when the weather occasionally turned nasty the big guys stayed at anchorage or port just like us. They didn't want to get beat up either. Then there are the many advantages.Low fuel consumption&less expensive dockage. The ability to cruise at a leisurely pace or cover a lot of water when you need or want to.Anchoring right on the beach at Valcour island or getting into a beautiful anchorage that only shoal draft boats can enter off of the North Channel.Taking the La Chine canal through old Montreal to Atwater market.Bypassing Iroquois Lock when the flood gate is open. I could go on & on.
I'm ready to do the trip again. It was a fun adventure. Now I just have to convince Linda.

Ah, Alan, the memories your post brought back of the Loop trip - every one of your recollections brought back floods of great memories. Now, to return the favor, your mention of Valcour Island brought us back to reading our post about it - you may enjoy the photos from Champlain also, for the happy thoughts it may bring back - hmmm - and we almost came back east this year to do it again, and now we're thinking ... thinking .... http://www.geocities.com/bill_fiero/champ.htm

I agree with Boris, there is no need to be in a rush on the loop and even when you aren't you still miss so much. I think we could spend a lifetime of summers in the Western Georgian Bay and North channel.
Saying that the beauty of our CD 25 has been the ability to scoot through the areas that need scooting at 25 knots, not six - like Oswego to Kingston and out of the North Channel to Mackinaw Island. The speed lets us cover a lot of open water in a short amount of time in a predictable weather window. We are going to spend this summer following Boris's footsteps slowly cruising down Lake Michigan to Chicago, but only after we have cruised Michigans Inland waterway as well. In the fall we will get the boat somewhere into the heartland.
If you are thinking about the loop join AGLCA and get on the great loop list http://lists.samurai.com/mailman/listinfo/great-loop. There is lots of great information on both those lists.

OK, have found the Great Loop listserv, got subscribed, and have received a few nice "welcome" emails! I have a bit of catching up to do, the archives to back to December 1969! Being a text based archive, it is a little different from browsing a forum like this! Got to get my map ordered so I can see where the places people on the list are talking about.

Pat --

A CD-25 did the trip a couple of years ago in a series of legs starting from upstate NY. Here is the link to their good web site which makes an interesting read especially since they did it in a C-Dory.

They do show up on the Brat list if you sort the members by boat name.

This trip is also one that we (or I should say I) aspire to but Mim's view is more like Patty's view and our timetable is further out. I still have some work to do!! Good luck Pat and when you get that problem solved, there are a bunch of us that will be looking to you for advice.

Jim

Yeah, thanks, Jim - Cosmic C's blog is wonderful. I just went through the first leg so far. They probably haven't weighed in here because they are too busy cruising!

Pat, we missed Cosmic C by one week on the Hudson when we left Coeymans Landing just below Albany NY last summer. They where on the last leg back home to the thousand islands.
