Greetings C-Dory owners,
This is my first post here... I am in the "discovery" stage. We have been sailors for years and are considering adding a powerboat to our "fleet". Being in deep south Texas, we are a long ways from a dealer (OK, a long ways from most anything). We are thinking a 22 Cruiser. Are there any owners in south Texas who would be willing to show us their boat? I promise not to be a nuisance. TIA.

James, welcome to the site, great to have another member. If you go to the top of the home page and sort the memberlist by location, you can find those that have listed their locations in TX (they all don't list them, it's not a requirement). Then you can send a PM (Private message) or e-mail and see who has something nearby you can look at.

By "former sailors", do you mean Navy? There's a number of us, I'm a retired Captain, there are several of those around the site, along with some other varieties...

We all love our boats, hope you find one.

Lots of good information here. I did go through the owners' listing, but thought I'd try a general post here first. While I'm certainly not selling anything, I didn't want to bother anyone with a "cold" e-mail.
And by sailor, I was referring to sailboat owners who have made the switch. Not that there's anything wrong with you Navy guys... Sir! :wink I was wondering about the transition from sail to power. I do have a Coast Guard Captain's License (OUPV) and plenty of time on the water, but most of it under sail. Yes, our sailboats have always had an aux, but the hull forms are completely different animals.
We are looking for something to cruise the Texas south coast and haul to other fun locations. We're good with tow vehicles, towing, etc., but our experience with motoring has been to get in and out - not the main source (only :shock: ) of propulsion. I have to admit, there is something appealing about turning the key and going... regardless of the wind. And an enclosed steering station when a norther moves in would be nice, too.
This morning, my wife said, "Did you find us another boat, yet?" She knows when I focus my search, it's time to get serious. The C-Dory is the first powerboat that appeals to me for looks and stats... now, it's time to see one in the flesh!

As a former sailor,( no not the Navy )we switched to our first power boat about two years ago. The wife has paid her dues on those "tippy boats" We are getting a lot more use and enjoyment then I ever imagined. I'm not done sailing, but that will not be our primary boat. Good luck on your search for a C-Dory and welcome to the web site.
 
My wife is a first rate sailor - she can handle any job on the boat, including the helm, handling the sheets, racing, reefing, dock lines, etc. Heeling doesn't bother her, but she did say that it might be nice to have a boat where she can kick back and relax. :wink I rarely singlehand; so we're looking for a boat that is comfortable for two, for trips up to several weeks. We do the majority of our sailing in the Gulf; I would anticipate the C-Dory to be ideal for the Laguna Madre (lots of skinny water) and on up the ICW to Corpus, Port A, and who knows?

We've spent plenty of time together in small spaces: besides the sailboats, there've been motorhomes, airplanes... and we work together. She is totally on board for this next step.

So... any Texas C-Dory owners out there interested in "show & tell"?

OK, and another question for those in warm places: how's the ventilation in the 22 Cruiser? Sailboats you generally step down into the cabin, but hatches and fans make it livable. Is there plenty of airflow in the cabin? How about any kind of greenhouse effect from those big windows? OK, and regarding heeling: is there much movement on these boats at anchor?

My apologies if these questions are repeats of common threads; I appreciate your responses and patience.

My wife and I spent 33 years sailing dinghies on and around San Francisco Bay. The switch to the C-Dory is one of a change to a slower pace and great relaxation, at least compared to all out racing.
