Annual C-Dory Convention Location

Having just attended the annual C-Dory convention and SBS in Seattle I have to tell you it was one of the best trips/events I have enjoyed in a very long time. With that said and please take this as tongue in cheek as it is meant.....Based on the Brat Map it is time to consider a rotation of the event from the PNW to the Right Handed Coast.

Look at this map folks....it is growing like a wild fire over here on the Atlantic side and we need to get these guys up there in the cold waters of the Pacific Northwest to consider investing in a few plane tickets and joining us for a Annual Convention every year or so, don't you think.

I am sure we can find a venue that will support a lot of good cruising, beer drinking and find food. The only problem is going to be getting the Factory to ship all those great items for the yard sale to us....maybe they could throw them in one of the boats they are shipping this way.

The problem with Miami Boat Show is the expense; not only for the boat show itself, but marinas in that area are high priced normally, and even higher priced during the boat show. In 2005 I paid almost $3 a foot at Turnberry Marina & Resort, north of Miami, which was the closest marina to the boat show with slips available at the time. The bus ride to the boat show was over an hour. My vote before Miami would be someplace like Key West, Ft. Myers, St Augustine, Charleston, Norfolk, or Cape May.

I would think that this would be good for you Easterners to do. pick a well attended boat show where there would be a good display of C-Dory and affiliate boats. get the Dealers and the factory to work with you and set one up. I am sure that there would definately be some interest in Westerners coming back there for a gathering. I know that I would do it in a heart beat!, as long as it aint during tater time...lol...

The Atlanta show is usually just before the Seattle show

Remember, according to Tyboo's rule's, if you suggest a gathering, YOU are in charge! :wink

I think an annual gathering on the East coast is a good idea.

The C-Dory factory party and the Seattle C-Brats party coincides with the Seattle Boat show, so if you arrange a gathering in conjunction with an East coast boat show, you should get a good turnout. Byrdman worked the Miami boat show, and he loves a good party! :smilep

It helps if you can find a hotel with party room not too far from the boat show.

Who says there has to be only ONE CBC (C-Brat Convention)?? But "THE" SBS / CBC is a tradition that will continue here even if there are other CBCs in conjuntion with other BSes (Boat Shows, not that other "BS"), partly because the factory wing-ding has to, you know, kind of happen at the factory!

How can Pat Anderson have 2600 posts. That's 2 per day, Sat, Sun, Holidays, etc. for 800/year. And you don't dare miss a day or there are 4 posts to make. How about a weeks cruise, 28 posts to make up.

I think I post a lot of replies, and even too many (those that don't make sense) but I only post 100/year. An order of magnitude less than Pat.

However Joe/Sea Wolf holds the record, at a higher rate than Pat.

I heard a rumour that the factory was moving to a lower tax state like Louisiana or Alabama. Plans were for moving early 2008 acording to the source.
 
I say Charleston, SC.

Nice big harbor area, lots of hotels and restaurants. The ocean is right there with beaches. Mild weather. Fort Sumter for the history buffs.....

And theres a local C-Dory dealer!!
 
if we have as much fun as we do at the SBS it don't make no differnce to me where on the east, southeast, northeast we have it 8) i'm for it :D :thup

It's worth the flight back east just to go to Sticky Fingers! I admitt I'm hooked. I'll be eating ribs and swimming in their sauce the last week of april
in Chattanooga Tennessee. I order their Habanero hot sauce by the case.
If I didn't have to fly to Canada before I head home I'd probley stuff my suit case with goodies!

I think it boils down to what an old cropduster told me when I was desperate to build hours for insurance: "Boy, if you see an airplane -- log an hour!" It must be how he's got so many . . .

Papllion Mike: Go for it big guy! When putting together conventions that folks around America traveled in for, be sure to take into considerations the cost of the flights, the hotels, and the food. Any gathering...takes time and cost. They are much like being a boat owner. You know...you have friends that are "boat passengers", who show up at the dock just in time to depart, after you hauled the boat and launched it, and are not in site within seconds of getting back to the ramp.... Then you have "boating friends", who are there when you clean the boat, fuel the boat, fill the coolers, buy the food, launch the boat, retrieve the boat, re-clean the boat... and share in all the cost, fun, and work... Those that put together gatherings do work hard. And, as participants at gatherings, we need to do our individual parts to bring what we can, fix what we can, as to allow them to also be able to enjoy the gathering. Having put together a couple of these events....I just gotta say that is another very positive thing about our Brat community.... we are boating friends... showing up willing to help a bit, willing to pass a hat for things that will always needed to be purchased. I sure am glad I have this site and the friendships/events that spin from it. :thup

Southwest has pretty good prices and flies to a lot of cities.... When finding a city,.... look for places that book good deals on at least 2-3 nights stay. When flying cross country, it is a day each way, so that turns into a 4-5 day trip.....or party.

The birth, or starting of the Seattle gig... kinda started by folks saying hey...let's some of us get together around the show... and one of our original Brats, Roger Johnson getting us hooked up with group rates at a hotel.... which started off as about a dozen of us....then just took off once we talked about the idea online here on the site. These events take a lot of work that somebody has to step up and do. They also cost...and we did not even pass the hat to help the personal cost that Roger had in this years event. Some things were left from last year...but I think it still ended up costing him around $200-$250 out of pocket. T

The factory, (Jeff Messmer) saw a great opportunity to use the senergy of that 1st hotel get together, mixed it with an open house for the "new factory" location... and it was... For sure a great full weekend of boat stuff and friendships. The factory can right off theirs as a business exspense, and I feel sure it is well worth it to them.

Others too have made significant contributions ( :beer and a lot of postings too :mrgreen: :beer ) that have made the Seattle Event very nice. Thanks Pat and David....and that Terry guy from NY... The beverages sure were nice. We also lost a friend who was not there this year with his 100 quart cooler full of German and other brews gathered during his deployments/travels. We missed you Norm. And...of course all the locals who pile the table high with their local dishes and fixings... WOW let's do it again today!!

Los Vegas has some pretty good deals for total packages at times. Orlando has some pretty good packages at times.

Bottom line... we for sure do not need to limit our Brat Gatherings to one a year... and we really do not even have to have our boats as many of us from the east that have came out to the NW... but like others have mentioned, often, the prices in/around the boat shows are inflated. I did not work the Miami boat show....I simply was invited at the last minute by a friend, and my "local" C-Dory dealership, Wefings, hooked me up with some passes. That made it affordable for me....after the Seattle boat show trip. The room rate alone in Miami was over $500 a night... Thank God for my friend unfortunately having a job that keeps him away from home a bunch...but those Marriott points sure paid off. .....and a Crown and Coke in the hotel bar.... $15 a hit. That made for a nice walk down the street for sure,,,

Now, I am meeting another boating friend in Savanna this weekend... Not a mention one from our mid-east coast Brats about a gathering/get together/gig around the Savanna Boat Show...??? Only been happening for 5 years now I think...and is advertised as the largest boat show on the east coast between New York and North FL....or something like that. Step up to the plate guys!!! You have some great waters in your area.

Others chime in.... who has some contacts?? Let's keep the price down.
 
Hi Folks,

I think that the Chessie Meet in June is a good east coast event, and held annually. I hope to go some year AIK (after inn keeping).

We could do a Florida event in the winter.

I was really trying to rub the PNW nose in the fact that East Coast Owners were winning the game..."March Madness" had put me into the competive mood.

But since we are on the subject, I would like to see the Gulfcoast Gathering made into an annual event and we need to take on more of the cost of the event and and pass the hat so we can still talk John and Marc into providing the site.

Putting together an event to coincide with a boat show is not neccessary....Oyster / Shrimp & Bar-B-Que events work fine for me.

Having enough boats at the event would be great but if you don't have your boat there we will find one for you.

i must agree with your suggestion that the Gulfcoast Gathering be made an annual event 8) :thup :thup from the pics and stories i saw and heard, (i wuzn't there :mrgreen:) i could get into that type gathering :D :beer . to say"we don't need no stinking boat show" is an understatement :lol: i may not be able to make the gathering due to work but would give it one hell of a try :D wouldn't mind helping with the "puttin' togetherin'" either 8)

Done! Its an annual event !Ill get with John to pick dates early and we will get it rolling along . We had such a good time last year there was never any doubt in my mind we would be doing it again . I thought you all could read my mind ! BTW, I get nervous just thinking about Miami.............
