And the medical issues keep coming

Hi Pat & Patty,

Wow, I just caught sight of this thread after a wonderful day out on the boat. We will be praying for a speedy, full recovery and some great cruising to come.

I guess this head down position is like keeping one's nose to the grindstone!

All the best, R&J

A friend used a massage type bed and head rest so he could lay face down and see and reach his lap top on a low table. Headset on his cell phone took care of other communication issues. In the end all turned out well for him.

Best wishes.

Pat,

I am so surprised and sorry to hear of this latest kink in your plans. I am figuring Seattle has about the best "eye guys" in the country, so you must be in good hands.

'Hope you make it thru in flying colors. I'm sure you're not the type to want to sit around and gather moss, but maybe that'll pay off for you in the long run.

In the off chance that all fails, rest assured you'll probably get back to a normal life soon. I had a girl working for me who had but one good eye and she did pretty much everything everyone else did.

Here's wishing you and Patty a quick and full recovery!

John

Pat, Cordell and I send you our best. Sounds like you have had, and continue to have, super medical attention. Hope your recovery is speedy and total. Robbi

As always, thanks guys! Back to the doc in about an hour to get the patch off, he said I would not be able to see worth a crap (verbatim quote) for a while because of the air bubble. My big fear is he will tell me he doesn't want me bouncing around in a boat so soon (Gulf Island cruise in about 10 days) - I plan to beg and wheedle and promise not to go faster than 6 knots!

The other thought that occurred to me was that this happened when I was within reasonable distance of the great docs that have treated me - from the ER doc at St Joseph's, who called in Dr. Ford at Bellingham Eye Physicians, who set me up with Drs. Nash and Sapperstein at Vitreoretinal Associates at Swedish - all within 24 hours of the occurrence. What if this had happened on our cruise to Ketchikan or even out in the Gulf Islands? I shudder to think...I know this same thought occurred to Bill when he had his stroke, and has probably crossed Dr. Bob's mind a time or two as well. Marty - of course I will follow the doc's instructions, this is NOT something to fool around with!

Anderson-you just do whatever he/she tells you to do. The only thing you can say to him is "OK". Jeez, sometimes I wonder.... :disgust

Marty, he's a lawyer AND an Anderson. 'Nuff said.

As for his new "face down" position, Baxter must be in heaven. That puts Pat's nose within range of the fastest tongue in the west....

One factor that he needs to be constantly reminded of - - - retina damage doesn't bring a lot of physical pain. It's hard to ignore a broken arm, broken leg, or (especially) cracked ribs but easy to forget when the damage involves the eye. I think the young lad will do fine once he settles down a little more and gets past the stubborns.

Pat, thinking of you on the right coast....I've done cataracts and implant lenses in both eyes, with borderline glaucoma since forever. Take care of yourself. Stay well.

Pat: G R E A T to see you back so soon...and keep us posted on today's visit.

Don: Man, I am glad you gave some clarity on your comment about having Pat in the face down position.... My mind did a little racing picturing him with his face in that can't see nothing hole on a massage table...and his lovely dog poking about at all the opportunites. We know how those frisky little four legged "friends" ...can be at times... :embarrased Yea...Pat would more than likely still prefer a lick on the nose rather than some other little doggie trick.

Back to Pat: Hey...you must have been thru this heads down routine in the past...particuarly when you and Dav were taste testing for the Brewery getting that Train.....just right!

Hope to see you soon Brother...Speedy ....and dog safe recovery from your SE friend.

Oh My Gosh
Pat & Patty ! Thats enough health issues. You are due for some good luck. Pat, do what the Doc. says, keep your head down  We need you back on your feet again, the Gulf Is. just won't be the same if you can't make it.
Ann & I will keep you and Patty in our prayers.
Thanks for keeping us updated on your condition. The C-Brats are like one big family.

Just returned from my one day post-op follow-up. I am cleared for the Gulf Islands! My surgeon, Dr. David Saperstein, is a sailer, and he said he will be in the Gulf Islands that week as well! Anethesia just wore off about an hour ago, a little discomfort in my eye and some nausea, but nothing bad. Still can't see due to the air bubble, it will take a few days to be absorbed. We stopped at the Issaquah Costco on the way home from the doctor visit and ran into Marty and Dotty from Lizzie there. I think I am doing great, all considered!

That's good news! And it sounds like if there is a problem, you're doc won't be too far away (and a C-Dory can easily chase down a sailboat)! Hope you're feeling better soon. BTW - with a really long straw, you can still drink beer while lying face down - just a suggestion. :beer

Just found this thread! Great news that you are on the mend. Can't keep a good man down, eh??

I'm another BTDT, but my fishing partner (for 8 years) is an eye doc -- nice to have him along, and having your doc sailing in the same area is a huge plus.

All best wishes for a rapid recovery!

Pat and Patty,

Wow, have missed being here for a few days and come on to find this thread already 3 pages long. You are loved here, and the whole family cares. Sounds like you have been through the mill and coming out the other side already. We will keep you in our prayers for a full and speedy recovery. Deena has had some experience with a retinal disintegration thing, and it is really scarry, but it does heal and it is still spooky. Bummer for her, she couldn't ride the lawn mower for a couple months, (oh yea, that was a bummer for me too). You both take care and be careful. This probably means no more kickboxing and football though, so calm down relax and spend a bit more time at that 6 knots.

SHOCKER !!! Just found this thread and as Harvey said " already 3 pages". Your C-brat family indeed cares !!!

Pat, we are so happy to hear that you are doing so really well. May your road to recovery continue to be a smooth and fast one. We were concerned about the Lake Powell trip, and lo and behold, you're going to be cruising the Gulf Islands in 2 weeks !! Medical science and smart, steady-handed docs are wonderful!! Not to mention the resiliency of the human body and spirit.
Keep it up, oops! that is except your head.
