An Amazing Sight

Cool... or hot I guess would be more accurate.

Thanks Bill and El.

Hope this finds the crew of Halcyon loving life and healthy.

Bill, I was just reading about the volcanic eruption north of Bishop, Ca. A volcano (or a bunch) barfed up 150 cubic miles of tuff. And that was only 800,000 years ago. We're visiting Yosemite this summer and thought we would drive down 395 to see the remains.

Nice to see it's still happening. I don't know if I would take a boat through there. That stuff floats, but it's still sharp and I would worry about the cooling water impeller.

Mother Nature is awesome.

When you are checking out the volcanic remains between Mono Lake and Bishop read the visitor plaque at the pull off just before you drop over the hill to Bishop. That eruption sent rocks out to Nebraska -- definitely long range missiles! Always wonder what the critters wandering around out there thought about the incoming rocks

Also go up the mountain to the Bristle Cone Pine forest -- there are remains of a mining shack from 1800s up there that gives a new perspective on roughing it.
