Adding swim/diving platform

I am looking at a 2007 22' Cruiser with trim tabs but no swim platform. What will it take to add a swim/diving platform and ladder to this boat? Any recommendations on particular brands and where I can get one?

Thank you.

Presuming it has a single main engine, then the stock C-Dory swim platform should fit on either side if you only have the one engine - or the "non kicker" side if you have a small second engine.

Depending on the brand/model of trim tabs, the top of the actuator on the side with the platform may also have to go through the platform base (doesn't affect trim tab or swim platform performance), or you could notch the swim platform to fit around the actuator.

As far as I know C-Dory has molded their own swim platform. If that's the case you would need to find a used one, or perhaps you could order one as a "part" from the current C-Dory builder. I suppose you could find a generic one - or go custom - but the C-Dory platform is a nice design and fits the space well. I would look for one if I needed a swim platform (new or used). A telescoping stainless ladder (Garelick, etc.) is usually mounted to the underside of the platform and is stowed there, secured in place, when not in use.

This view is slightly "distorted" since you can't see the side view at all, but it does show the C-Dory swim platform and ladder to port.

That's correct. It's the stock C-Dory one that won't fit with twins. A custom one can be made though, as you show. It's just a bit smaller.

As I remember, Dave S posted a thread to discuss the custom swim step on his boat. I'll link it here if I can find it.

Here's a closer shot of the swim platform handrail. It's stock on the boat. IIRC, it's the type with projecting studs, and then nuts go on the inside (whereas the ones on either side of the cabin door I think are female threaded and take machine screws). I had just re-bedded it in this photo, so I can't believe I don't remember for sure.

My '08 22 came with the factory swim step but not the handle. On mine the port lazarette was a live well so maybe that's why a handle was omitted. I removed the live well stuff and use that lazarette for storage.

I found out pretty quickly that a handle would be handy for using the swim step. I have gotten a handle, but haven't yet put it on. I was waiting for the next time I use the swim step for swimming to determine the best place for the handle. It will likely go as shown in the previous photo or on the sidewall of the splashwell.

I have the "live well" port lazarette as well, but also the grab rail. One of the grab rail fasteners does come out inside the "live well," but then so do three or four of the rubrail fasteners. So maybe it was just an optional thing. Or who knows, maybe the original owner added it, but he basically didn't do anything but store the boat, so my guess is that it's original. I don't know for sure though.

My take on the handle is that it is best in the splash well. I have a handle aboard, and just have not gotten around to placing it yet. In past boats, I have placed it, depending on where it was the best fit for boarding, with the boat in the water, even though we use the ladder and swim step occasionally when on the trailer.
