Hello Folks
I just put my 06 CC in the water and see that a winlass would be nice for solo cruising - does anyone know what model/manufacturer the factory uses in the Venture 23? I'm meeting with Jean? from Mobile East in NC to see about installing it - called the factory but couldn't roust anyone. Thanks
Hank

Hi Hank,
Glad to see you purchased the right boat for your needs.
We don't have a windless but I would like to know more about them. Hope to see you on the water soon.

Journey On has a Lewmar V700 Stainless Steel Vertical Windlass (or equivalent.) It came from the factory and has worked well. It's also one of the cheapest. Powers UP/DOWN, lets you set the hook. The chain to rope transition works well, and the rode has never slipped out.

Highly recommend it. When setting it, you don't need to go forward, and when you're hauling it in, you go forward only to wash off the rode. One finger up, one finger down. Works well off the bow roller.

I second Journey On's experience.....so far my Lewmar 700 has been very good.

For shallow sites I power down. For deeper sites I do go forward and release the clutch for free fall. You would always need to go forward with any windlass if only to secure the rode to a cleat.

For me the hardest part was cutting that BIG hole in the deck. Once that was done everything else was pretty routine. I did plan, rehearse, double check, and think twice about everything but in the end, all went well. :)
