Adding a winlass to a 23' CC

Hello Folks
I just put my 06 CC in the water and see that a winlass would be nice for solo cruising - does anyone know what model/manufacturer the factory uses in the Venture 23? I'm meeting with Jean? from Mobile East in NC to see about installing it - called the factory but couldn't roust anyone. Thanks
Hank

Which windlass is one of those questions without a definitive answer. I installed a Lewmar V700 vertical windlass on my CD22. Installation was pretty easy and I am very satisfied with the windlass's performance. I chose a vertical model because I wanted the deck to be clear. Others prefer the Lewmar horizontal 700 model. That general size is quite common for 22's and 25's so should be perfectly adequate for your CC23.

Hank,
I have the factory's 2006 brochure for the Venture 23. It lists the "Sprint 400 windlass" as a option. On my 2007 Marinaut 26 (CC26) a Lewmar V700 is installed. I believe the 700 is a replacement or upgrade for the Sprint 400/600. I'm not 100% sure since on all my previous boats I tossed the anchor over the side. This is my first boat with a windlass.

Hi Hank,

I had Sportscraft Marina install a Lewmar horizontal 700 windlass on my new 23' Venture. I also had them install a rear steering station. It works great and they really did a good job! :D

I preferred the regular Lewmar 700 versus the free fall model. It kind of depends on how and where you plan to anchor as to which model you choose.

Good Luck,

Kent

I had a Lewmar 700 installed on my 22 and it works well. Occasionally the rode jumps out of the gypsy but I think most of the time it's operator error. The Lewmar 700 uses a switch rather than a relay. The larger Lewmar windlass's come with a relay and you can use a remote with them that would be pretty handy sometimes if you boat alone. Lewmar sells a kit that will convert the 700 to relay and remote part number 66000652.
