Actual weight of 19/22 Angler?

Hello: I have been pouring over the C-dory website and finding it a bit confusing...according to the site, the Angler 22 (with trailer/engine) weighs 4100 lbs. but the 3-foot shorter 19 weighs 3000 (1100 lbs less)??? That does not seem correct...the boat shape, motor and fuel capacity are very similar...how can 3 feet of balsa-cored boat weigh more than half a ton???? Anyway, has anyone ever actually weighed their boat on a SCALE...I am really thinking of buying a 19....my truck is rated for 4500 lbs....but I will also be hauling gear and people....can anyone confirm weight of the 19? I really do not want to buy a larger truck...that is the main reason for looking at c-dory in the first place!
 
At the lower left of the home page is a link to the factory site. The specs on the two boats list the hulls as 1650 and 1700, 50 lbs diff. They have the same tanks and very similar power options, trailer weight would be similar and your gear and crew the same, so you are correct that it's nowhere near 1100# difference, maybe 50-100, so little that if you can live with the weight of one, you probably shouldn't exclude the other.

I havent weighed my 22, but here are my estimates, excluding a couple of horrendously heavy options.

Boat 1700; alum trlr 1000; power 500; anchors, batteries, gear, etc. 500, full fuel 286; total 4000+/-. So the answer is that they are both going to be near 2 tons before your truck, carry ons and people.

Maybe if you provide some info on your tow vehicle, people can tell you what they think or have experienced. Good luck.

Mine probably is closer to 4500# as typically outfitted. I used to tow it with an Expedition 4wd small 4.6L. It was just fine in flat lands but really lacking on mountain grades at altitude.

We did weigh our CD 19, 2008 model, Honda 90, plus Honda 8 hp kicker on a single axle trailer - unhitched - parked on the scale, gas tanks full, only life jackets and similar essential gear on board, no ice chests fishing poles or stuff like that.

Weight was # 3815.

Thanks, I'm in a similar, but worse bind. My Toyota Highlander Hybrid AWD will tow 3500 lbs. I am assuming that I could scoot by with a 19, but nothing bigger. I seems (or seemed) like the best pilot house fishing boat I could handle, I'm not willing to upgrade vehicles at this point.

Watching these replies carefully.
 
I haven't been up on the scale at all, I've used published weights for the single axle no brakes road Runner bunk trailer, the Yamaha 75 4 stroke, no kicker and full fuel and we keep the boat light with safety gear and 10 gallons of water in 5 gallon camp containers. No nets coolers etc
I figured this all comes to approx 3400-3500 pounds. I tow with a Mazda B4000 4.0 liter 6 cylinder 4X4 rated up to 5600 pounds. No worries so far with hills etc. Just allow lots of room in front as quick stops with no brakes on the trailer are verbotten. Remember towing capacities on most vehicles has to take into account things like hitch weigh, stuff in the cab and others to not exceed your max gross weight.
If I wanted to load my truck with 4 big guys and lots of stuff, it would make me too near max capacity. As I run my rig it is absolutely no trouble and I bought the truck first with the idea of towing a 19. I made sure that I can tow a 22 also for when we need to move up the food chain, like Joe and Ruth. The basic boat weight as said prior are pretty close. It just depends how much you want to add on to the basic. George
 
It seems like the 19 vs 22 would only be 200lb or so . The boats according to brochure are only 50lb apart . the trailer would maybe weigh an extra 100-200 lb depending on brakes or not . The weight of engines ,gas tanks and gear should be about the same . So if you can tow a 19 you can tow a 22 . When we towed our c-22 cruiser it weighed about 3800lb with a 900 lb trailer 420 lb motor (90 suzuki) and about 2000lb for boat, extra gear 400lb ( anchor windlass ,anchor , life jackets ,boat gear ,batteries , etc.) We towed it easy with our Honda Pilot (4500) tow rating . We actually still tow our cape cruiser 23 with it although only a few miles a few time a year with no problems. We are looking at bigger tow vehicles for the cc-23 If we still had the cd-22 we would keep the Honda for sure . The new Highlanders will tow 5000lb but not the hybrid it rated at 3500lb . I think you could tow the 19 with alum trailer and very little gas and be under 3000lb . The alum. trl . will save you about 200lb and also not filling the gas tanks up 250lb or so will keep you within your limits .Find a 19 and have it weighed make it part of the deal if its under 3000lb you can buy it ?
 
We towed our 22 with a Honda Pilot. Rated capacity of the SUV is 3500 lbs house trailer and 4500 lbs boat. We have assumed that the difference is that aboat is more aerodynamic, so that there is less wind resistance. Depending on where you are going to tow (exception being some high mountains) for the most part a vehicle with capacity of 4500 lbs will do fine with a C Dory 22 loaded up.

Many folks who initially buy the 19 end up with a 22, beause of the increased functionality of cruising accomidations.
 
Packed up for our Lake Roosevelt trip, we tipped the scales at 4120 at the single axle and another 280 at the hitch for a grand total of 4400lbs for a trailered 2003 19 Angler.

Yes, we do have the heaviest 19 on the planet but in our defense the trailer is rated for a bit over 4500lbs and and we can tow up to 5000. This included 2/3 fuel load, Honda 75, Torqeedo, more 12v power than we deserve, bow trolling motor, three anchor sets, two coolers full, a kayak, food for 5 days+, fishing gear, and a ton of other toys and goodies all in the boat.

We usually run with the tow vehicle nearly empty but after seeing this heaviest example trip weight on the scale, we plan to spread the little load into the tow vehicle to balance things for a longer tow like that. The towing went well at our 60mph cruising speed and we get 13mpg with the Sante Fe. We normally tow only 15-20 minutes from the house so our "everything in the boat" loading method works well to minimize gear moves for those short trips.

Our Highlander is a 2002. It just doesn't have the strength in its suspension, brakes or running gear to tow our '83 22 foot angler. (Weight with trailer is 3500 lbs. unloaded) It's too nice a car to subject it to the strain of mountain curves pulling the loaded boat. Our '97 Dodge Ram 1500 V8 does OK, but slows down quite a bit on the mountain upgrades.

Of course the nearest water for us is 360 miles away in Valdez AK and the road runs through the Alaska Range. If it were me, I'd go looking for a nice used pickup rated for at least 5,000 lbs towing capacity and make sure the transmission cooling system works OK. (Don't ask me how I know.)

I tow my 22 cruiser with an '06 Toyota Sienna which has the towing package. The Sienna tows the boat just fine around the East Coast. It does lose some speed going up long hills. I pull the boat through the "mountains" of PA a couple times a year (usually) and don't have any problems. It might be a different story if I lived out west, but for where I live it works fine. IMO the FWD helps pulling out the boat because the drive wheels don't usually end up on the slicker parts of the boat ramps.
