I've always been impressed with the informative contribution Jeff Siegel has made over the years to discussions on C-Brats as well as the trawler lists I host.

Last summer, I purchased ActiveCaptain Mobile to see what he was up to--and was impressed. What a great navigation tool, and a cruising guide, right in the palm of your hand! As a result, I became curious to find out more about Jeff and his wife and partner in ActiveCaptain. No commercial interest in ActiveCaptain, Just happy to have Jeff aboard here and ActiveCaptain aboard my TomCat.

I installed Active Captain on my phone (Sprint Touch) and it's been great. A full featured plotter added to my device for just $20.00. A real no-brainer.

I just logged on to active captian. I really like the new map over lays. After clicking around for a while I noticed that much of the DETAIL note are empty or have very little information. I understand that it take member to post reviews and other information to this site. its a self serving sort of site like wikipida or others. Not sure i want to spend money on the moblie version just yet but I like the idea. I would like to see a planning function for trips.

Active Captain

I use Active Captain on my Palm Treo 700P with Sprint. Actually worked with Jeff as one of the Beta Testers. He is great to work with and I like the product. It was fantastic to plot out a route say from S Puget Sound to the US border. - The maps on the Handheld are the NOAA maps - its great software as it will bring up marinas, and other details very quickly. Once you choose an area on the map - and ask for other information it goes out to the Active Captain site and picks up the details requested - I don't have any financial connection with them except the appreciated discount for the beta testers.

Also Jeff was one of the contributors to the free Palm Tides software that I use on a regular basis.

Hope Jeff will build an Active Captain for the new Palm Pre that looks like an amazing phone -
