A sad day for the former Nancy H

Well, folks, I first should say that the former Nancy H isn't sad, but it's sad for me and my family.

Saturday we start the process of selling her. We bought the former Nancy H from Larry H (as he's posting now) and intended to join the C-Brat life. Took her out on a couple of trips after re-powering her, caught some fish and had some fun. However, my job changed dramatically (being self-employed has its down side), and my wife became super busy at work. As sometimes happens, life got in the way of any cruising that year.

Then last fall, my father-in-law came to live with us, and now he requires 24/7 supervision. Our cruising days are over, at least for a long while. That's why she is now for sale.

I did think about keeping the former Nancy H and using her just for fishing, but she is a cruiser (22 Cruiser to be exact) and it would be a shame to use her for other things, especially as Larry had her rigged.

So this Saturday, she goes in to Westside Marine in Port Townsend to be checked over and detailed.

The boat has changed little since Larry owned her. I re-powered with 90 and 15 hp Suzuki four-strokes (neither has more than 40 hours; see, I told you it was sad!), and added a Humminbird GPS/sonar.

She'll be ready to rock and roll in about two weeks; then I'll be listing her here and elsewhere. I might be interested in trading--once she sells, I'll be looking for a 16 C-Dory or a smaller Arima.

Thanks for listening.

Been there, done that, definitely sad. We lasted a few years but when I began resenting my elderly mother every time I looked at the lonely Jenny B, we knew it was time.

Situations change and I'm sure I'll eventually be on the water again but not before mom passes on and those highly paid plumbers finish with my arteries. (1 stent down, 4 to go.)

Yah, Keith, you're definitely not alone....

Keith,

Sorry you didn't get more time with the boat, but life does get in the way of our plans. We just spent a year of uncertainty with Nancy's father.

For those who want to see pictures, here's one.

Sorry to hear this. I am going thru this exact situation as we speak, with both my parents. I hope you sell her quickly and for what you expect/need. Good luck.

Thanks, guys. I wasn't trying for sympathy, but just wanted to let you know what was going on. In a few moments, I'm hooking her up to take her to Westside Marine. I've been procrastinating, because I really don't want to do it. However, what I want doesn't really enter into it.

Considering that her berth is right outside my office window, I'll spend less time sighing and thinking than in the past. Oh, well.

When she sells, I'm thinking about a 16--something that will keep me in the C-Dory family (not that we've been active members of late).

For those who are in similar situations, you have my sympathy and support. It's a tough time for all--those who receive the care and those who give it (and their families).
