A Proposal - C-Brat GPS Chip / Card Exchange

This seems like a no-brainer. Say you are going to SE Alaska up the Inside Passage. You post an inquiry in this thread "Does anybody have a Raymarine C80 chart card for Inside Passage to Alaska?" Pat responds "Why yes I do!" I loan you my CF card for your Raymarine, and you send it back when you are done. I need CF card(s) for my Raymarine for the ICW, Chesapeake, Great Lakes, whatever, and you loan them to me. I return them to you when I am done. I probably won't loan you my Seattle card, because I use it all the time. But those second / third / fourth chips / cards, why shouldn't we freely loan (or exchange or whatever)? I know there are a lot of different brands and standards, but I'll bet somebody has exactly what you need!

We've been down this road before Pat but nobody volunteered to take "ownership" of the process. Frankly, don't see why we need an "owner", just a topic to post our available chips on and then let the two parties get in touch with each other either via e-mail or PM!

Like this topic for example!

OK Brats, post your excess, available for loaning out, chips here. Please put enough information to let those that need one know what they'll fit.

Good job Pat! I'll go look and see if I have any of my old Garmin 188 chips around. They may have gone with Captain's Choice a couple of years back!

Charlie

I don't see this needs an "owner" just a forum for inquiries and answers. PM between the parties after contact in the forum should handle the details!

I also have an old-style Garmin Seattle chip, it will fit the GPSMap 188C, GPSMap 176C and probably others. I also have an old-style Garmin chip for Lake Powell that is on loan to Bill right now.

That's great Pat. Once we get a number of these posted, I'll populate an excel spreadsheet and post that in the documents section.

HERE'S a pretty good compatibility chart that lists what chips will fit which Garmin model.

When we list chips that are available, would be best to list what numbers appear on the chip so we can determine more exactly what it will fit and what area it covers...

Charlie

i've been waiting for someone to mention this, the only reason i haven't is that i dont have a gps yet, but when i do, i will list my cards, make, and model...

If it was older chips, no problem, but in my case I have Navionics Platinum chips for Florida and for the Gulf Coast states. Pricey stuff. Would love to put them into an exchange but I don't think I would get value back for them. They are for sale, though, so if any Brats are interested, PM me. Otherwise they are soon going on the T&T for-sale list.

HI,
Just a thought but if the DaNag or Tyboo could expand the profile section of each C-brat to include items available for loan such as listing of books, charts, chips, service manuals, local info on areas they are familar with for questions etc. that each C-Brat could fill out themselves. Maybe the search link could be linked and used to find who had what you were looking for and a p.m. could make or break the deal. Just a thought. I don't know if that is possible but keeping it simple would be best as I'm sure the donation money only goes so far!!

All,

I definitely support the idea of a chip swap for Brats. However, I can't see why anyone couldn't just indicate what they have and are looking for right here.

So here goes:

"Osprey" came with a Navionics Gold SD918G chip(Eastern Rivers)
and a Navionics Gold SD900 chip(Western Great Lakes) both 2006 vintage.

I would like to trade the SD918G chip(Eastern Rivers) for a Navionics Gold XL3 chip or any other Navionics Gold chip of the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Or, trade them both for a Navionics Gold 15XG-2(Central U.S.) which has both the western Great Lakes and the northern Gulf of Mexico.

I have a Lowrance 3500C GPS unit.

I would welcome any PM's if someone wants to play.

To the Brat Leadership, thanks for the opportunity!!!!

Capt Dan

Well I bought the Lowrance XOG gps thinking I could use my
left over C-80 Navonics chip in it and its too big so that could
be loaned out. Its for Vancouver Island BC but covers Puget
Sound OK. I have the West Coast so I am covered for local
work. Bob Heselberg Eatonville Wa

Thanks much Charlie,

From your chart I can see that Warrens Navionics Platinum's will not work in my Lowrance. Knowing that saves both of us headaches.

I am concerned that with time this thread will get buried here in "General Chat".

I wonder if the answer is if DaNag or Tyboo could put the "Chip Swap"
or something like it on the home page. Or perhaps it could be somehow associated with the "Boating Accessories For Sale" forum with some sort of a breakout for a chip swap.

Frankly, I am very impressed with the way these two keep this zoo as organized as it is.

Returning to standby.

Dan

Good subject. I'm interested in obtaining another NauticPath chip which the chart says is compatible with my Lowrance LMS-527ci gps. If anyone has one they no longer need I would be interested. Thanks.

OK, I'm ready with my first request to borrow a chip! For the second half of September, I would like to borrow a Navionics Hotmaps Premium CF for my Raymarine C80. May end up buying one, but if anybody has one that they are not using while we will be at Lake Powell, sure would like to borrow it! PM me if you have one available. Thanks!

And if anyone has the same chip in SD, I also would like to borrow one for my Humminbird 757... same time and same reason as Pat and Patty

I have a C-Map NT+ card- code #NA-C601.03 that covers the west coast from Santa Cruz, MX north to Cape Mendocino, CA.
It fits Furuno Nav-Net 1722C.
This is a spare, if some one wants to borrow it- let me know.

Don't want to borrow but I am looking to buy the old style Garmin map chip for Southcentral AK (includes PWS, GOA, and Cook Inlet). I have a 188C plotter/sounder and believe the card I need is the "mus025r" or part# "010-C0039-00". Might buy 2 if the prices are right.

Once I have one I might loan it out

Respond here or email: flatfishfool@hotmail.com I am in Anchorage.

I am interested in a Navionics Gold only East Coast chip in SD
