A C-Dory and a Trophy in Andrews Bay

We went to Andrews Bay on Lake Washington with our neighbors and good friends Garry and Vicki Anderson this weekend. Garry and Vicki have a Trophy Pro 24' boat with a 250 hp inboard with I/O drive. They have about 30 hours on the boat and unfortunately have been having a LOT of problems with bad gas, the fuel filter or fuel pump. Leaving 40th Street today the old bugaboo hit again, could not get the inboard motor running, so they motored over on their kicker (hooray!).

We had a GREAT weekend, weather was wonderful, a great time with sundowners in the cockpit, and a wonderful dinner together (shrimp in Malaysian sauce and fried rice). In the morning, a great breakfast of hash browns, sausage patties (my homemade sage sausagere, yum!) and scrambled eggs. Sunday morning Chuck and Kathy on Bootleg Hootch stopped by to say hello, very nice! Then a walk around the Seward Park trail, a lunch of crackers, cheese, Vienna sausage and other stuff, and back to 40th Street. It really does not get any better than this!

Pictures here.

For the Friends of Baxter (no, it is NOT an AA group!), here is just another typical Baxter pic!

So Pat, now that you had a chance to compare the two boats side by side, how does the C-Dory stand up next to the bayliner. I know they had motor problems so it's hard to compare proformance, but how about accomodations?
Before we got Rock-C, we were considering a Trophy. The cost at the time was much less. We are glad we held out for the C-Dory.

It looks like the door on the Trophy is broken, but I checked the Trophy site and apparently that is actually by design. Is it narrower at the bottom than the top?

Perhaps this cut and paste from an email fomr Garry will answer that question...

Great CBrats site - enjoyed the pics!!!

We had such a GREAT weekend - we went out and looked at NEW boats today..................Vicki really likes the creature comforts on your boat and is positive this is something she wants to do - and more than just day trips!!!

Thanks again

Garry

I am pretty sure the door on the Trophy is not broken - it is a brand new boat, and spotless in every respect.

But to really answer Terry's question.

The interior of the Trophy is all molded, all white, feels cold. No cabin heat (except when the motor is running), and no stove. No curtains, no rug, no sound system. No camperback canvas. ALL of this could be installed for much less than the cost of a new boat! But there is also very little storage space, the design is not conducive to customizing, and there is no stand-up head. There is a marine toilet under the cushion in the vee-berth. These are things that cannot easily be remedied with retro fixes.

I think if the motor was running well, they would be thinking about making the boat more comfortable with all the stuff above. And they may yet end up doing that. It is not a bad boat, and they already bought it! But I have put Garry on to a bunch of info about the boats for sale here, and the virtues of the TC255 (which I will say for all of you, is an absolutely AWESOME boat to drive) and some TC255 albums (thanks, Roger and Janet!). So we'll just have to see. I suggested he should come to Langley in June (he has a place on Camano just across Saratoga Passage), check the boats out and perhaps get a test ride.

The CD25 is the winner hands down over a Trophy Pro in every respect except running fast in moderate chop, but you probably all knew that already anyway. The Trophy Pro is bigger than a CD22, but a well equipped CD22 is also way more comfortable than this boat as it is currentlly set up. Garry is a good friend of Kirby on C-Sick, and I can't help but think they would have been happier if they had bought C-Sick when Kirby moved to the Ranger 25 instead of the Trophy Pro, but their circumstances just weren't right for that at the time.

being a newer boat the ignition would be electronic type ???
but if it still has the older rotor cap set up, i have seen quite a few run like a charm after pulling the cap off and wiping the inside of the cap with a dry rag ... some rotor's seem to attract moisture on old or new engines [/u]

The wife and I had visited with a Throphy, but after really digging and doing the research the Dory made a better fit. Better resale value, a great support group, easier on the gas, seemed to be a bit more user friendly, ie, cabin, v-birth, etc.

Pat & Patty,

Sorry we missed you last weekend. It would have been great fun visiting you on our dinghy but you already know why we couldn't make it. There will be more chances I'm sure.
