27 boat projects

I have a long list of items that have to be redone, added, removed, or just plain changed to the new boat. I wanted a on going place to put all of the projects in instead of having multiple post all over the place. So this is going to be the one stop spot for the 27 customization projects.

so the very first thing i did was to remove the door and hatch that closed off the v-berth from the rest of the boat. The hatch looked like a grape banger for the get go and the doors, even when opened all the way were just in the way. So I removed them to allow more room when getting in and out of the v- berth.

after. as you can see it opened up a lot of room.

the other thing that i did last night was to lower the seat. Don had a really great seat that not only swivel but slides back and forth. Well it was a little too high for me and not only was my head rubbing the ceiling but i had to duck down to see out all the window. So I removed the slide assemby and lowered the seat almost two inches. I can still turn the seat around and sit while talking to some one at the table. I dont mind losing the slide function and it would not have fit with the counter top mod we are going to do.

Yeah, i was wondering about that. I saw the aft pictures on EQ site. How are you going to net a Tyee? Will you net OVER the rail? or go under. These are weighty issues.

Clearly he has to go over the rail with the net. The fish that Tom catches are far too large to fit under the rail!

found this west marine by zodiac 8ft 6 dinghy and 3.5 nissan motor for $500 on craigslist yesterday and bought it. everything seems to work just fine. I will field test it tomorrow.

as for the netting, the rail is not as high as you think because the sides are lower then in a 22. should work just fine and their is only one way to find out.

Hi Tom,

That is the same model dinghy we have been using for years - not the fastest with the slat floor, but is sure works fine for our use. It's light enough that I can haul it up on the cabin top by myself. We've had up to 4 adults in it, but it's pretty snug. Works fine for a couple and 10 days worth of grocery shopping. I think that will be a good match up for you.

Best wishes,
Jim

I finished installing the sending unit for the Flow scan gage today. I took out a two way valve that selected the main or the kicker. This did not allow me to run both at the same time. i don't like shutting down the main until after I get the kicker started. old saying among pilots, 4x4s and snow mobiles in the back country " a running engine is a good engine" same goes for off shore and river fishing.

So I installed the flow scan meter unit and then ran the fuel line into a "T" that feeds both the motors at the same time. now I understand that I may get the main siphoning the kickers fuel line but that happens in the 22 once in while and just requires a quick squeeze of the fuel bulb.

Now all I have to do is mount the gage and run the wires but for now I can run the motors.

Jim, I think that this boat will do what i want and i could not pass on the price. I can lift it in one hand so getting up to the top should be fine. I might try it tomorrow. I willl be doing a test ride in the dinghy on the slew.

I was wandering if I took out the slats and installed a air floor if the ride and speed would increase??

Chromer, I plan to have the mounts built into the rails. I will have to have it custom made.
Be sure to consider how the canvas will fit together with the downriggers. I discovered after I had my Tom Cat canvas built that there was not enough clearance between the downriggers and the deployed canvas support hardware. My downrigger mounts are inboard from the rails. Mounting the downriggers on the rails may mean you can't button up the cockpit canvas.

Tom-

Is that even possible, without sending it back to a factory or custom airbag builder?

I'd think it would have to be thermally bonded to the floor and specifically designed for your dinghy, and the dinghy's floor would have to be designed to take the air floor's added load, etc.
