26 Venture

The 26 venture is a fine cruising boat get a rv style a/c unit on the roof and an air head toilet with some Garmin electronics and a 200 hp engine Yamaha or Merc and an Alum trailer with torsion suspension and disc brakes , that would be my choice .

Benefits of the cd-26
1- floats in 12-15 in of water or less
2-planes off at 12-14mph
3-towing weight should be 6500-8000lb depending on cruise ?
4-Your inside in inclement weather and you will have less visits to the Dermatologist.

The auto pilot and the roof top a/c heat are the two best options I put on my boat. Love them both and makes live so much easier.

what auto pilot did you go with? Ive been looking at the garmin one.

Having owned two C Dory 25's and the C Dory 26 venture being a slightly heavier boat, I would expect towing weight to be in the 8,000 lb range, perhaps a little over depending on gear, and trailer. Do not get a 6500 lb trailer--that will be too little capacity.

My 2014 C Dory 26 Venture w/twin Honda 90s:

Measured by dealer on delivery
a. Trailer + boat (100 gal fuel + 25 gal water): 8350 lbs
b. Trailer GVWR: 9365 lbs (on trailer plate)
c. Trailer maximum capacity: 8025 lbs (on trailer plate)
d. Trailer weight: b. - c. = 1340 lbs
e. Boat weight: a. - d. = 7010 lbs
f. Trailer/boat tongue weight: 550 lbs

The trailer was a Venture aluminum tandem axle bunk (VATB-8025)
Tires ST225/75D 15 LRD 6H (Baltimore, MD)

As with most things, and people, the rig probably gained a few pounds
with age.

Aye.

Garmin. More expensive but I've had no problem. Works best while planing.

Ken ...I have the Garmin Reactor 40 autopilot with smart pump. It works excellent at every speed. Surprisingly it even works in reverse! Garmin makes many autopilots as do other companies. Mine had to be commissioned at the dock and on the water. I confess the first time I set it up wrong and while it worked OK, the second time was the charm. I’m wondering what model of Garmin autopilot you have and what the pump size is? I called Garmin before I ordered mine and they said that if I wanted to troll slow this was the model to go with. One of the other models was about half the price but would not do what I wanted. I do not want to hijack this thread but want to clarify. You may not need a slow speed autopilot and that’s alright.

I learned a lot about autopilots by doing my own research and the installation. Still learning....Tom

Is their a preferred location to run wire from solar panels on the roof?

My 2¢... I’d have it come down a back corner of the house. Probably the corner that has the wiring loom for the anchor light. I’d use 8 gauge marine wire, and put the controller as close to the batteries as possible.

If you can miss a cored section of the house top, less chance of future issues.

AM Solar has some good videos on attaching the panels without drilling (VHB tape).
