25 Cruiser rode locker capacity

Anyone know what the capacity is for the bow locker on a 25 cruiser?

I'm looking to replace the anchor rode on my 25 cruiser with a new one. I have a Simpson-Lawrence Horizon 600 horizontal windlass, so I believe I need to use 1/2" 3 strand. I hope that I'll be able to fit 500-600' of rode so that I can anchor in some deeper fishing spots. I also have 50' of 1/4 chain.

Also if you are in AK then any suggestions on locally available rodes are welcome. I'll was planning to check Alaska Rope and Wire first.

I don't have information specific to a 25, however on the rode:

Another option may be an 8-plait rope such as Yale Brait. It packs down smaller than three-strand so that you can fit more in the locker (I have 200' in a box and it does fit in a smaller space than the equivalent three-strand). I checked and the 1/2" is supposed to work with a Lewmar 700 horizontal windlass (I don't have a windlass now but knew I might get one in future). I believe Sam on Retriever uses the Brait with his Lewmar 700 vertical windlass.

I have the 600 with 30 of chain and about 280 of 3 ply rode. I could probably fit another 50' on top of that, but it would be prety well up to the bottom of the windlass without going up and re distributing it'

Do you have the vertical windlass version? I definitely don't want to be opening the locker hatch to spread the rode out on a regular basis.

Dave/Anna Leigh is about the max as to the amount of 3-strand anchor rode one can stuff into a C-25 anchor locker. That rode gets a little stiff with salt (no snickers.)

For various reasons I changed to plaited rode (6 or 8 plait.) That will pack down a lot more, and you can easily double the amount. The 200" of Sampson 6-plait looks small at the bottom of Journey On's locker, even with 50" of chain underneath. The plaited rope is ~10 cents/ft more expensive than 3-strand (defender prices for 1/2".) Easier to splice, too. Just soak it in water before you use it to remove the lubricant.

A comment on the Simpon 600 Vertical. The seal under the capstan allows a lot of grit to get into the gearbox and motor. Here are some photos of the inside of a 600 after it failed: Lewmar 700 Gospel. Here's an extensive discussion of replacing a 600 with a 700: Lewmar 700 Installation. The last post is the installation of a 700 on Anna Leigh.
