25' Cruiser questions!

Well we "FINALLY" got our boat, CD25 cruiser, 2006, in the yard and spent the night (in the yard) on her. The Wallas did good but we cheated with an electric heater! Temp was 20 outside and warm enough for a good nights sleep.

My questions are: (1)Can anyone tell me how the cabin seats are converted to a bunk??? We tried every configuration and can't figure it out! I even had the dealer come over and he couldn't figure it out! (2) The fridge works fine on shore power but can't get it to work on 12 volt. I tested the fuses (1 on bulkhead, 2 at fridge) all have power to them. The dealer told me that once shore power is disconected the 12 volt kicks in. All I did was turn off the 110 volt breaker to the fridge and next thing I knew was my beer was warm!! Pretty nice design on the fridge, by the way, as it seems that the only thing that fits in it is beer!

Any help out there?

Hi Don, I'm not sure if a 2006 is different than a 2002 but on Plan- B to change the table into a bed I remove the back of the passengers seat and take the table off the wall & lock the table leg up and rest it between the two seat cushions on the support boards to form the middle of the berth. Then take the cushion seat backs and place them with the seat cushions to finish the bed. The Fridge on Plan-B is like you stated controlled by either 120 or 12vdc. The 120 switch is located under the table and the 12vdc is controlled by the switch on the refridge just above the door. You have a switch and a temp control.

The fiberglass forward seat back also lifts up and out of its wood support brackets and fits back down on the opposite side ( forward of, or behind the front seat).

The fridge should automatically change to 12V and continue running when you unplug the shore power. Make sure the switch under the table on the panel is on. There may be a reset breaker button there also, can't remember, but I will check.

I know this is basic but you need to have the batteries switched on for the fridge to work on 12 v. Our fridge gets cold enough to freeze items on the top shelf if you set it too cold. It also holds the cold temp very well. We like to turn it off at night so we don't have to listen to it cycle on and off when trying to sleep. I also don't think the table with seat back cushions line up well with the seat bottoms when made into a bunk. I fold up a large beach towel and put it on the table before I put the seat back cushions on it. That makes it the same level and a lot more comfortable to sleep on. We also prefer a small ceramic heater over the wallace when on shore power. It's amassing how that little heater can run you out of that boat even when temps are in the teens outside. If you have the camper canvas the heater will even do a good job heating the cockpit area by just leaving the door open. These are cool boats! I hope you two enjoy yours as much as Cathy and I have ours. If you don't mind I would like to share a few more things Cathy and I do when staying on the boat. We had a lot of extra long twin size sheets after the kids got through with dorm life and they do well at covering both the v-berth and the table bunk. On the v-berth just stuff one of the corners under the mattress. The racks do come out of the fridge if you have items larger than the space to store in it. We still use a good 5 day cooler on the boat with dry ice because the fridge is too small when staying 3 days or more. We just use the fridge for drinks and store items not that temp sensitive. When we use the shower we shut a small micro-fibre towel in the bottom of the door and that keeps it from leaking and getting the cabin floor wet. I noticed that David on Anna Leigh posted here. Go to his photo album and steal all his ideas :smile they have a great set up.

I was being sarcastic on the fridge "only holds beer" (I don't even drink beer, didn't say I didn't drink though). The fridge will have plenty of room. It still is not working when shore power is disconnected. I was hoping there was a "switch" somewhere that I can not find. (House batterys are on by the way)

As for the bunk, If I set the table down on the ledge between the seats, the seat back cushions do fit (width) on the table but height is about 1 1/2 inches lower than the seats. The depth does not match up well either. (bear with me here): If I take the aft seat out it fits perfectly on the table (height, width, and depth) and if you look on the bottom of the aft seat there is one siffener (only on the forward part of the bottom) that shims it up perfectly to the forward seat. But now there is a big hole (where rear seat was) and the seat backs would fit perfectly there "IF" there was a piece of 3/4" plywood or support. Just does not look right with the seat backs between the seats. I don't have a beach towel that thick and the depth is no where near OK. Guess I'm not sure why I am worrying about it as I will NEVER sleep there! For guest only and maybe it is designed to be so uncomfortable that the guest will not hang around long???

Correct me if I am wrong, but I assumed that the switch(s) under the table are for 110 volt?? I don't see how that would effect the switching over to 12 volt but let me know if that is the case! I have completely disconnected shore power and the fridge manual says it should automatically go over to 12 volt.

I'm having a tough time trying to figure (picture) this one out! Are you saying the entire fiberglass seat back fits on the bed somehow? Don't suppose you (or anyone else!) has a photo??

Sounds like I am doing the same as you only the seat back cushions are 1 1/2 inches lower than the saet cushions on mine! Does not look very comfortable!

Guess I need a "C-Dorys for Dummys" book.......

It is easy to pull the fridge, just 4 screws to the base cabinet in my 06.
Our fridge has in line fuses at the wiring splice to the fridge. Could be you just have a bad fuse, and at least you could check your voltage there and be sure you have twelve volts at the fridge. From there its easy to trace the 12 volt wire back to the distribution bus bar in your v-berth to trouble shoot.

This is a Tom Cat but I think they are similar to the 25.

1. Pull the seat cushion back off the white fiberglass seat back deal.
2. Pull the seat back up and out of the wood holder.
3. If you want the seat to face in the other direction, reverse it and insert into the other wood holders on the other side of the cabinet.
4. Remove the table from the wall, remove/fold the leg, and lower table to rest on the wooden holder mentioned in #2.
5. Pull the seat back off the other seat and put it and the seat cushion from #1 on top of the lowered table.

If the cushions are not even on the top--then put the padding under them (towels etc) to bring them even)--It is not a major problem--but can make a little difference--also there are a number of pads which you can put over the slightly un-even surface.
 
All,

I have pulled the fridge and checked power at the fuse there and have 12 v in and out. CD called me today and they are sending me a new fridge.

As for the cushions: I sent CD pics of mine which are 1 1/2 inches lower than the seats. I don't want to have to pack 5 towels to shim it up so I will wait and see what they say. Thay did mention that the may have sent me thin seat backs instead of thick???

So.. thanks for the info and I will post a reply when I get some answers from the CD folks!

GO CATCH SOME FISH AND QUIT WASTING YOUR TIME ON THE COMPUTER!!!!! (leave a few for me!)

For those interested: It turned out that the horizontal table supports that the table sits on for the berth position were installed to low at the factory and C-Dory is sending me a new set (wider). Problem pretty much solved.

As for the fridge, it turned out that a connector on the DC side was crimped on the wire insulation (not contacting the copper wire) so no 12 volt power to the fridge. Just replaced the connectors and it works fine. Not sure if that happened at the factory or the dealer.

No such thing as problems, only solutions!
