23' Venture Questions

Jim, I really don't believe in talking about fuel economy based on Navman readings...I watch that of course to see what is relatively more efficient, but if you want to know your real fuel economy, you need to log miles traveled since last fill up, and divide by gallons required to fill. You then have a true average economy number. And you probably want to do it over a long time so you pick up all kinds of wind and current conditions - which for sure affect fuel economy. I can tell you, on our boat, it is always considerably lower than what we might think just looking at the Navman instantaneous readings. I would then use the lowest average fuel economy for trip planning.

HI Pat I'm glad spring is finally here .Hope all is well with you guys.Getting back to fuel economy I use Navman plus i reset the gps mileage used and also refill fuel tanks that way I have 3 ways to figure out the mileage. I've had this boat since last yr and I get consistently 5mpg Its hard to believe .Now we have lots of slow speed (manatee zones) so we are running at 6-7 mph .Also we do not have to contend with large tidal flows and currents. We also do not load the boat down with extra stuff .I use 89 octane gas bought at the corner gas station with a little bit of startron per gallon

I will admit that when we went tubing for a few days last month that my economy went down to about 4mpg because of tubing with 4kids and running at 4500rpm .
I guess if I take a long trip i will plan for 4mpg and be happy when its more .also if we take a trip we will be loaded down a lot more So far the f-115 yamaha 06 has been very economical for me about the same economy as my c-22 with 90 suzuki

I went with the 23' Venture composite core, (no rot) handles a chop a little better, about 1000 pounds heavier, insulated cabin, (no cold sweating) Many extras that cruisers want are standard not really accepted by the old guard. C-Brat map still lists them as other, only the original C-Dory's are officially listed there. The new owners do a vaccum bagging process which reportedly make for a stronger hull construction then the methods used by the former owners and builders of the C-Dory's
