2023 Delta and Bay Extravaganza

Thanks Jim. We'll stay on our boat. But that reminds me. Due to having a cpap, freezer and fridge, I will need to run my generator for a couple hours every day not on shore power or motoring, probably sometime in the afternoon. (Pretty quiet Honda). Hope that's ok. Colby

I think you'll like those new oil bath hubs. Just make sure you have the right seals on. That's the biggest problem folks face.
 
I hear ya on the seals. The original "right seals" would not fit my non-standard, Dexter axle hub diameter. So I bought another set from another manufacturer that fit the hub fine but dimpled slightly when I installed them in my standard Kodiak hubs, however, they were made for grease. The company said they use them interchangeably with oil bath systems (only double-lipped). I used red sealant on all metal to metal surfaces as recommended. I carefully rotated and inspected each hub at the sealing surface to make sure the seals only contracted where they should. Had to smooth out some grooves on two hubs. It made the 80 mile round trip to Marina Del Rey last August in 100F weather with no leaks. So fingers crossed that all is fine.

Your food quantities will more than suffice. Yes, it will be ok to run the generator during the day. At night, you would probably get some complaints from the other boaters as we are all really rafted together.

In two weeks, Rosanne and I with C-Traveler will be heading out for the 2000 mile tow to out west. Looking forward to the travel and the cruise! We've been in the 80's this week, but forecast to fall into the 40's with rain changing to snow Sunday night. May the California weather be moderate and sunny That week for the cruise. And may the Delta be flowing normally. (Last time, it was littered with floatsum due to earlier flooding.) In advance of the cruise, for those of you that have forgot, or don't know, I have a coloring book that I would very much appreciate your indulgence in. I've already picked out 3 new pages for this cruise, the Friday Harbor gathering, and then the cruise to Chatterbox Falls following Friday Harbor. An explanation from the title page I keep with the book:

I won this book in a silent auction at the 2016 C-Brats St. Johns River gathering. While I’m not really into adult coloring, this seemed like a great opportunity to have something to remember the great times and new friendships made or old ones rekindled during various C-Brat gatherings, be they formal official gatherings, or informal meetings on the water (or land for that matter) at other times.
I ask that you take part in this endeavor by coloring in some detail of a picture, and adding your name and boat name to the item you colored in. If by chance you are joining in the gathering without a boat, please be a part of this anyway even if you don’t have a boat name to add.
Once you are finished, please pass it on to the boat or person next to you. Each gathering or event has a page/picture assigned to it below.
Thanks so much for your participation in this event and for coloring in the book. And BTW, no excuses about not being able to stay in the lines, lol. I can’t either…

We are looking forward to the 2023 Extravaganza. All food assignments for the Thursday potluck have been made. All the SF Marina fees have been paid. Everything is good and it is a go. Slack Time is working on making reservations at the South Beach Yacht Club for Saturday night. He has reciprocal privileges. It should be interesting with the world class sail boat races that weekend.Thanks for coming everybody.

Haven't decided yet rather I intend to do any fishing at Wheeler Island, but if I do, is that considered Freshwater Sport Fishing? I'm looking at the regs now, and will either purchase a one day fishing license before I leave home, or will do it online once we get there. Thanks. Colby
 
Yes, freshwater sport fishing. You should fish at the duck club. Some of the best stripped bass fishing anywhere. We usually get enough fish to supplement our potluck dinner. John Marshall does a great job cooking it for everyone with his deep fry technique.

C-Traveler has arrived! Made good time on the drive and tow from Wisconsin. But WTH is with this California weather? Rosanne said she came for the sunshine and warmth. It's going to be warmer back at home! :shock: Anyway, got launched and on the guest dock now. Unfortunately, found my two right trailer brakes both had broken calipers. Three of the pins holding the brackets onto the calipers sheared off, while one pin was missing. I did have a spare new caliper with me, and got that installed after launching and before supper. Rio Vista Napa will have the other one for me tomorrow. The pin breaks looked clean, and no rust or corrosion on the parts, so I suspect cheap OEM parts to begin with, along road vibration. (Trailer already has about 24,000 miles on it.) The wheels looked like the caliper brackets had been rubbing for a while, so I'm lucky they didn't fall completely off taking out the brake lines. All electric brakes are looking good again! :? Colby

Sweet. Too bad about the calipers and pins. That's something that would even be new for me! Hope to be there tomorrow late afternoon just before closing.
 
Excellent Colby. Glad you made it safely. Your boat looks great.

Trailers are always the weakest link. Always something with them. I just burned out one of my Kodiak hubs due to rubbing on the break hub and overheating the bearings. Was also likely an inferior break hub. You could fry and egg on the hub it was so hot. Totally melted the plastic top of the Kodiak hub.

I will be launching about 10 AM on Wednesday, We will depart at Noon
Wednesday for Wheeler Island.

Some rain off and on today, but Rosanne and I managed to get in 6 miles of walking through Rio Vista with three separate walks. Steve and Karen with Sea Spray arrived a little before noon, and then Steve and Carmen with Dora~Jean arrived around 4. Also got my new caliper from Napa and got it installed. Colby

Our leaders, Pounder Jim & Kath arrived around 10 this morning, and we left the marina just a few minutes after noon. Lots of floating logs in the water from the past storms and heavy runoff, but we all managed to dodge it all. Short 20 miles to the Wheeler Island Duck Club and we were on the dock by 2pm. One boat had to back out of the trip, so we are down to six boats. Very enjoyable time socializing here at the duck club, and had a great supper thanks to our hosts on Dinner Belle II. Jim shared the history of the Delta Extragavanza, this being the 19th one. He's hoping to do a 20th one next year. Colby

What happened to the California Sun shine? I am on Zoom every Wednesday with some of my college classmates, and 3 of this group live around the San Francisco area. They have had a very wet winter and spring, with flooding and roads washed out. Let's hope clears up for the rest of the trip! (And you have smooth seas!)
