2011 Delta/Bay Extravaganza and Catalina Offshore Adventure

Hey Kent, you exaggerate a bit...I just removed the lower unit to connect the shift-shaft that I didn't do right at home the night before. BUT...I added a socket set to my toolbox, so sky's the limit now!!!

Looking forward to a great trip.
 
After my last post I made a quick trip to the doctor because of belly pain. That turned into a quick trip to the hospital and now I am back home minus one appendix.

Sure glad this did not happen in the middle of this outing, but sure hate to miss it. Not feeling too spunky right now but should be doing better in a few more days. I may try to get over see you off Tuesday if it works out.

Dear All:

We are looking forward to seeing everyone Wednesday morning. Our C-Dory is in front of our driveway and it is all ready to go.

Unfortunately, Steve and Karen of SeaSpray will now not be able to make the trip this year due to last minute personal reasons. We are sorry that they will now not be able to come this year.

However, Steve and Alex of Dora Jean are now joining us at the last minute. Steve has been on eight of the last nine Delta and Bay Gatherings!

We still have seven vessels and 14 C-Dogs (Brats) going on this trip. Drive safely.

I appreciate your enthusiasm as a First Responder and it always good to have someone in the group trained for such things. You probably could have saved me some money and a lot of paperwork to sign.

Hey Steve, sorry to hear of your problem but glad it was resolvable and your on the mend. If I recall, this isn't the first time (or maybe 2nd also) that you've had a major situation just before or during the C-Dory outings. Hmmmm, is there a connection...? :wink:

Jim/Steve, is it possible for me to pay for some or all of his reservations and help us both out?

Hi Steve,

Taking over my reservation should not too much trouble. Just tell them everything is the same except last name, boat name, boat size, and additional person name. Just tell them the Excel file got jumbled.

I don't think there is any connection with C-Brat outings and me getting sick, just a couple of times with bad timing. That's my story and I am sticking to it.

Dear All-

We will have a slight schedule modification for this Wednesday. On Wednesday we will leave the Rio Vista docks at 1 PM, instead of Noon, so that we give John and Robbin enough time to get over to Wheeler Island to welcome us.

Assuming good weather if we leave at 1PM we should be able to get down to Wheeler Island by around 3:30 PM. Eat your lunch at the dock Wednesday before we leave!

Kath and I will launch our boat about 10 AM Wednesday.

Steve of Dora Jean had some trailer problems on the way up from LA today and he will not be launching his boat this afternoon. He will join us tomorrow morning at Rio Vista after he gets his boat trailer springs replaced at Pacific Trailer in Freemont.

Did the Cruise happen or did the weather cause a problem?
 
The cruise DEFINITELY happened and it was a great one! I particularly enjoyed it (after the trailer incident) mainly because of the cool weather. One has much more energy when it's cooler than hotter (at least I do).

My trailer incident. I had replaced both leaf spring sets on my rear axle last year after I noticed a few had broken, thought it was a 'rear-axle thing'. A job I would never like to repeat, most all of the 5/8" u-bolts sheared off when I tried to remove the nuts (after multiple soaks with penetrating oil and PB Blaster), but only after a LOT of effort. The front axle springs still looked fine (I had spread wheel bearing grease all around them when they were nearly new to protect from rusting).

While going over the Grapevine northbound I hit a large pothole (2x3ft, ~4" deep) on the left side. A few miles later I stopped to inspect, found 2 leaf springs broken on the front axle. I called Pacific Trailer in Newark, CA (about 250 miles further north). They said they could order the parts and have them overnighted to install next morning and offered for me to stay in their gate-locked, back lot overnight on the boat if I wished, which I took them up on. Very nice people. I was on pins and needles trailering at 50-55mph the rest of the way. He even asked if Starbucks ground coffee would be OK in the morning at 8am when they opened! They did a beautiful job, 2 hrs after the parts arrived, and I was on my way.

The mechanic told me that the grease was a good idea but not particularly environ friendly dipping in the water. He suggested what he uses, the higher quality Henry's Roofing Tar to coat the springs. I'll do this. He said the springs only last 6-7 yrs typically. But I've never replaced any springs in the 15 trailerable boats I've owned, some old, some new. Go figure.

Glad to hear it all went well, sounds like fun. I hope to have enough experience with Sea-Cruz to join next year.
 
Dear All:

Well we all successfully completed four nights of sleeping in our C-Dory’s, traveled 160 nautical miles, ran over 15 hours of moving time, and averaged 8.5 knots along the way. We hope the 42.5 gallons of boat fuel was worth it. For us the memories and happy hours we shared together were invaluable.

John, Robbin, Steve, Alex, Kent, Marcia, David, Donald, Joel, Susan, Russ, and Teresa – thank you all for coming to the 9th Annual Delta and Bay Extravaganza. This was a very experienced group of boaters who where a joy to be with. Kath and I again had a fantastic time.

A special thanks to John and Robbin who prepared probably the best dinner that Kath and I will have all year. The beef tenderloin, roasted vegetables, and homemade apple pie were to die for!

We hope to see you all and others too, same time, next year.

Hi Folks....We got home Sunday evening amid a snow/rain storm...it snowed all Monday and again today..losts of snow...fine weather for Jannuary....but what the heck is it doing here mid-May?

Will make some neat snow boat pictures...

Hi Folks,

Finally got my pictures posted! I wish that were am easier process! I can use Picasa, but am pretty computer illiterate otherwise.

Jim and Kathy once again took the lead and planned a great cruise! John and Robin outdid themselves with their wonderful Duck Club appetizers, dinner and breakfast.

Thanks to all for the great company. We had a ball! I couldn't feel better about how the boat handled. I wish I lived closer to the water and could "dip" the boat more often.

Hopefully, Donald's (Blue Eagle) surgery went well - Our thoughts were with you on Tuesday and in recovery.

We're looking forward to Catalina!!!
