On the 3rd of December I'll be selecting vacation days for 2009. If anyone is able to project the dates for C-Brat Gathering/Cruises for 2009 I'm interested in knowing what those dates would be. (ie: Friday Harbor, Anacortes, Bellingham, Canadian Gulf Island Cruise etc. etc.)

Thank you... :smilep

And don't forget the Great Eastern Shore, Gulf Coast, and whatever the one on the Upper Right Coast is called! And Lake Powell, for SURE, don't forget Lake Powell!

Thank you Pat for mentioning the greater geographic gatherings as well! So far the farthest I've been able to travel to a gathering was years ago to Lake Shasta. That was a super gathering in "Joe's Lake".

Who knows, someday the moon, earth and stars will be aligned in the proper order and I'll be able to make a Gulf Coast Gathering, a Erie Canal Gathering, etc. etc.

(Erie Canal is definitely on my "want to do" list!....someday...)

OK Dave, jump your happy butt on a Southwest air bus and come Southeast. You need to make a Cumberland River cruise. Have enjoyed our many times out there on the left side, now I need to get you (and some of the others) down here in the Heartland area.

We have a loose schedule at this time for a gathering. Spring 09.
Now, we may have to practice a few times to be sure we are ready, and feel sure I could toss one together in short order if you were to arrive.

A man that takes his Daughter and her friends down to help the Katrina folks, I can toss on my boat, put up in my house, set up a gathering for any time.

We have done cruises in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr.... one that sticks out in my mind was about this time two years ago.... We did a Thanksgiving gathering, and I think we had 6-7 boats at Mom's dock, and an additional 12 folks at the table, but it was great, followed by about 3 days or wonderful river travel.

So we have Friday Harbor and Anacortest on back to back weekends...

The 2nd annual Friday Harbor CBGT is scheduled for May 8-9-10. Ling Cod and Shrimp will be open. We had 42 boats last year. this year may be a little down because of the economy so I have advised Friday Harbor to plan for 30 boats...for now.

Perfect! A little Island time in between events and perhaps a couple of days in Victoria too..

I'm thinking the Sequim Bay CBGT should be Sept. 11-13.

Contacted Squalicum Harbor Office about setting a date for the B'Ham CBGT for 2009. They're not taking 2009 reservations until after the first of the year. Having the CBGT around the middle of August will work for us but can't make any final decisions until the event calendar is in place for Squalicum Harbor. We DO NOT want to have it the same weekend that the parking lot is being used to build sand sculptures! Trust me on that one!

Not 100% directly relevant.... but...

FYI ....the Hood Canal Bridge - which is the major access route to and from Washington state's Olympic Peninsula (WA state Highway 104 crosses the Hood Canal Bridge) - is projected to be closed May - June 2009.

The estimated bridge closing duration is 6 weeks starting in May 2009 but their website is quoting the May thru June 2009 timeframe.

Depending on where folks are coming from or planning to disembark from this might impact transportation plans for any folks planning on attending the Washington state Friday Harbor and/or Anacortes CBGTs.

Take care,

At Barry's request, this one was split off of this thread to its own discussion, added to the calendar and given a signup list.

It would be nice if we had one in the San Francisco bay area or the delta. Is there a tradition of there being one, or is it something that needs creation?

Hey Mailbox!

Sorry...do not know your name yet. No real rules on setting up a gathering, just need someone to step up and get it done. Just ask if there is any general interest from folks on here cruising a particular area, ask what general time frame, or set one with local knowledge of when conditions are "most often favorable".... and go with it.

All you need to do is be able to tell folks where to launch their boats, where they can store their tow vehicles (in a safe place) for the duration of a gathering.

Some of the gatherings done up here on the Cumberland River just outside of Nashville have a "surge" weekend.... launch Friday, recover Sunday for folks who can only attend during a weekend.... Then, once folks start signing up...they themselves sort of build a float plan as to boat in the area a bit more. I think one that we did here ended up with boats in the water for about a 3 week run.

You just have to step out there and say hey let's do it.... and do it.

Also keep in mind a general food plan as to allow folks to stock their boats for what ever the gathering will be. Some folks like to eat at the neat places on the waters if they are there, others, like 3 meals a day on the boat, and we have ended up with a great mix of that.... but folks need to have a general idea before showing up.

I'm thinking Lake Powell will be about the same dates next year...I'll probably launch around September 17th...the rendevous in Oak Canyon on the 19th.

Also...thinking about doing a Fall Delta Cruise on the California Delta. This would be mid to late October...and head in the oposite direction as the Spring Delta Cruise...upstream in the rivers and sloughs of the upper delta.

While I'm at it...how 'bout we revive the Lake Mohave Cruise in February? Say we take advantage of the long Presidents Day weekend. Launch on Feb 12-13...pull out on 15-16?

Mailbox, check out the Delta Extravaganzia--this is yearly and starts in Rio Vista in May. It is a great cruise, with planed runs every day. Check out the photo section of the various cruises.

Chris -- just curious -- are you no longer going to lead spring cruises on Powell? From what I have read the weather is better in the spring?

Warren...I think the best weather on Powell occurs in September-October. The water is still warm and the risk of winds is less. This year I think I will just do the two weeks in September.

Matt, just did a pretty thorough search and don't see a Boston Gathering in May or any other time. You've mentioned a couple of times, if you want it, you gotta organize it! A little far for us but I'm sure you'll get some takers. Start a new topic and create some excitement!

Happy New Year..
