Hello all you 19' owners. I thought I would post some pics of my install of my coaming boxes and Cannon downrigger mounts/bases I did this weekend. If you have any questions please message me and I will answer best I can. I have also replaces both tanks so can give so help on removing them. The whole reason for the coaming boxes was to get access to mount the downrigger bases . Had to have acesss to get the nut and body washer on. I figured if I had to cut the boat up I might as well install something useful.
Cheers!

Hello,

When you cut into the side of your boat, are there any wires I need to be aware of when I get my jigsaw out to also install an access port ?
Thanks
My Scotty down-rigger base only has screws into the fibreglass and I want to attach some wood underneath so I can bolt it down. It would be a sad day if I snagged up and saw my scotty get tipped out and into the deep !

Normally there are no wires or cables on the port side. Starboard there will be both the steering and shift cables, Plus a bundle of wiring. There are several options. I would either look thru the lazerette on the Starboard side. This is a case where the Fein saw can be used if you are cutting square or rectangular access. For circular, a Rotozip on a radius attachment, with the bit, set only 1/8" deeper than the glass. Another option is a hole saw to start with, and then you can look inside to be sure where the cables are. The cables should be secured under the deck outboard, with clips or screwed down wire ties.

I know Bob mentioned this, but be careful. I have distinct memories of replacing a wiring harness on a helicopter tail boom after a metal smith drilled out a row of rivets. The bit went through the wires about every two inches, over a distance of several feet.
