Apple is recalling and replacing the first generation nano's. They are plastic on the front with a metal back. Apparently the battery can potentially overheat causing a fire. Anyway you can check the serial number here http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano_replacement/ and if it qualifies apple sends you a box to ship it back to them and then sends you a new nano.
