1997 Tomcat on Boat Trader

That seems like a heck of a deal with two new hondas. Thats half the value of the boat right there. They should have called it a 24 and not a 255 TomCat, but any serious buyer will know that already anyway.
 
Definately is a Tom Cat 24. One concern I would have is that 135 Honda's are put on a boat I believe rated for 115 hp outboards. I would really want to check the transoms. The 135 and 150 Hondas are basically the same engines, except for high end RPM...

I would also be concerned about the trailer under it. I don't see a "bow stop" bar which should be in front of each hull. There seems to be a winch post right against the wing deck at the bow eye--there are lines to the trailer from mid ship cleats, which seem to have the purpose to keep the boat from going forward--or aft on the trailer.

I agree price wise it is a good deal. There also seems to be a second station (shifters?) in the cockpit.
 
yeah second shifters but no steering?? Very odd. But hey pay it and set it up your way, thats the fun of it.

Never thought of that arrangement:

Twin shift levers for twins in the cockpit, but no steering wheel.

When fishing/trolling, set the steering to straight ahead in the cabin,
then steer with the twin engines in and out of gear to control forward direction, speed, and even reverse motion.

Would work, but seems they left out the easiest part to add on, the steering, by hydraulic means, with a second steering box.

Generally, the second set of throttles and shift levers cost more than the second steering box, IIRC.

Harvey will have to add this set-up to his "twins are better" list! :lol:

RE the lack of a 2nd steering station - the boat includes a Raymarine E80 w/Autopilot.

While not ideal in all situations (i.e. docking), the boat can be steered via an autopilot remote. For fishing while in the cockpit - it's certainly better than heading back in to the cabin.

Our first TomCat was a 24' and had Johnson (Suzuki) 140's. Didn't have any problems with the weight on the transom.

The EZ Loader trailer we had used the same bow stop as shown in the picture in the listing. It's basically the same as we have on the newer EZ Loader trailer for the TC255.
 
Brent, thanks for that information--all of the trailers we see around here have the full bow stop (holds for most brands)--I had never seen that other type (but of course I have seen yours and not paid any attention to the bow stop....). I would be worried about the single pedestal in an abrupt stop--but it works for you, good.

The Suzuki 140 appears to be about 80 lbs less than the Honda 135. The Suzuki 140 is closer to the 115 (as is the Honda 130) in realistic power (I have a 140 on my Caracal, and it is only marginally faster than the identical boat with a 115). The Honda 135 is closer to the 150.

Most of the 24's have either a 90 or a 115, so I made an assumption that was the motor the boat was rated for.

The TC24 was designed around the Honda 90, but I don't recall what the max power rating was.

The Johnson/Suzuki 140's were good on that boat. We mostly used it in Cabo San Lucas 2003 and 2004. Many trips 60 plus miles offshore Tuna fishing. The TC255 is a superior boat in all aspects in my opinion.

OK, Why do you need a steering wheel, when you have to separate OB's that far apart? Docking, No Problem, Backing, No Problem. No Steering Wheel, No problem ... more room, less mechanical system, No problem.

(Joe, is that jumping in there enough :lol: :lol:

Reality check... cool to be thinking outside the box. Saved some $$$ on steering gear and the remote will work for cruising speeds, (but probably not doing much of that from the cockpit.)

Sounds like a good deal on a TC24.

Had this boat been available when I was boat shopping I wouldn't have bought the Tug :mrgreen:
