1997 c-dory 22 Cruiser - on ebay - listing ending 08-03-2011

That was one thing that limited my high bid as well. I would want at least a 75 - preferably a 90.

From the description - it was donated by the original owner and that's how it came.

I actually found an old posting on iboats for the boat where they were asking $25k for it - I wrote them to ask if there was anything wrong with the boat but never got a reply.

Does anyone have a 22 cruiser with a 50? If so - any feedback on performance, etc?
 
I've operated my boat for all of about 12 hours since getting it. Have kept both 50's going the whole time. About 20 minutes on plane, the rest at about 8mph, my favorite cruise speed if weather isn't pushing me to get to calm waters quickly.

It isn't unreasonable to think that a 50 only capable of pushing at a nice displacement speed is unreasonable for that boat. I wouldn't want just the 50, but someone just fishing a lazing about in a boat might be very happy with it.

The other option is to buy the boat and find a used H50 to match the one on there already and have a nice twin.
 
I'm not they have all the facts right on that posting. Who needs 70 gallons of fuel with a single 50??? I carry 70 sometimes, and even with twins I can go for seemingly ever.
 
They have the original factory tanks which were 18 galons a piece 36 gallons total 20 gallon of water a 50 hp Honda will push the boat to 15-16 mph and plane off at about 10-12 mph Get the boat and repower with 90 or so and be happy
 
Cutter Marine used to sell em like that. Seen a few come up for sale over the years .
Fine for displacement but tough to plane .
Recovering sailors seem to be the audience for these .

Its one of the twelve steps to a properly powered boat with no sails.
You could wear out alot of outboards with a classic C Dory hull.

Marc We bought one from private party(duck) with a 50 hp it was from cutter marine . they ordered boats with front opening windshields Like I've said before 15=16 mph tops and 10-11 mph planed off Like Marc says great for sailing community I think this would be a good canidate for the new 70 hp yamaha 250 lb vs 400lb for a 75-90 hp any brand motor . When we bought our boat in 05 I sold the 50 hp honda for $1500 and used that to offset the price of new 90 hp Suzuki

In the 80's I found a 1967 Boston Whaler 16'7" classic pre Montauk center console sitting in a storage yard on a trailer but with no engine. I got it for a song, redid the woodwork, installed a new rub rail and powered with a new Merc 70. The boat would really run. Wish I still had it. Many years later when I decided to "move up" I sold the boat to a sailor who owned two massive and beautiful sail boats tied to his personal dock on the Chesapeake Bay. He asked me to help deliver the Whaler from the ramp which was several miles from his dock. When the Whaler went up on plane I thought this guy was going to have a heart attack and when we approached 30-40 knots I thought he was going to jump overboard. As soon as he recovered his voice he pleaded for me to slow down. We proceeded at hull speed to his beautiful dock. He drove me back to my truck in his Jag at normal speeds. So Marc, I understand what you are saying.

Our 1998 22 originally came from Cutter Marine and it was set-up almost identical to the one on eBay with a 50hp. I bought it from the original owner who had downsized from a 40’ sail boat and thought the 50hp was plenty fast. I traded out the 50hp Honda and repowered with used 90 Honda. I never ran it with the 50 myself as I bought the boat in the Fall and did the repower over the winter but I know the previous owner ran the boat off shore, around long island and put about 400 hours on the 50hp over 12 years of ownership. I figured these boats with the 50hps had a pretty easy none abusive past. Looks like someone got a pretty nice boat.

I think we were outbid at the last 1/10 of a second. Hope the new owner is happy. I did review all 90 photos sent by the seller in detail. (zoomed in) Dory looked real tight and cared for. It seemed right and the price left room for a re-power and wife and I agreed it was worth the risk. Our search now continues and plan to call the "Odyssey" folks next weekend when we are down that way and check out their 22. So we are, joining the brat's without our Dory. I think a fitting name for her (our future Dory) should be "Almost - C"

I am the fortunate bidder on this 22 Cruiser. Just brought it to Florida from PA today. Needs minor stuff as any used boat does. I am planning on re-powering with Yamaha 90 4 stroke. Anyone want a deal on a used Honda 50? :embarrased. Thanks to the folks responsible for posting the Owner's Manual on C-Brats!!!

Good move, welcome aboard! You are doing the right thing repowering. Not sure if you can use the Honda rigging from a 50 on the newer engines, and the Yammie is a great engine which will serve you well.

Anyway, hopefully the hole pattern will be the same for the Yamaha. Nothing against Honda at all. I logged over 6000 hours on two Honda's when I was in the charter boat business. The local Honda dealer is not quite as reputable as my Yamaha dealer.

So here is my next question, I see there is a drain hole below the water line in the lower center of the transom. Is this a drain for the deck area when out of the water? If the floor to the hull area is solid coring, I can't think of anything else that would drain there.

If the boat is not covered during heavy rains, where is the water to drain/collect...... auto bilge pump??

Welcome to the benign craziness of CBrats! Sounds like you got a great buy on a great boat!

The bilge on my 2005 model is in the bridgedeck as you come through the door. I am not sure about your boat's pump location, but check to see if you have a hinged door there door threshhold.

Yes, the cockpit drain is centered on the transom. FWIW, I install the drain plug from the inside, and rarely remove it. It's probably just a bit of paranoia, but I worry about something getting to or snagging the plug.
