Well I got the boat home and in the shop. I pulled the interior out and gave the boat a good scrubbing inside and out. I polished the hull and it looks a lot better. I have removed the old Evinrude to make way for the new Honda 90. After removing the engine, close inspection of the transom revealed a small crack running along the top where the engine mounts to it. I used my Dremel to open up the crack and that reveal moist balsa underneath. AAAARG. I removed about 3 inches of balsa but it is still wet. The wood appears to be strong just wet. I have to go back to work on August 8th until September 20th so the plan is to just let it dry out over the next month and a half. To bad we are not having a heat wave here in Alaska, that would help dry things out. I will try to post a photo of my misery. I was really excited about getting the new engine on but I guess it will just have to wait. I am still excited about the C Dory though. I have a good feeling it is going to be a great fishing machine. I also plan on going back country skiing this winter with the boat. There is a great back country area just across Kachemak bay. Any C Brats that would like to make a few tele turn this winter should let me know.

That sucks! I hope it turns out to be a simple fix.

I did a little internet research and I decided to remove the balsa core in the transom. I cut out the top of the transom and used a chainsaw and a special tool I made to remove the wet balsa. To my suprise a lot of the balsa was dry. I have decide to fill the void with Seacast. The folks in florida that make the stuff are very friendly and helpful. It took just under 6 hours hours to remove the core. I am ready to pour the new core but it will take a week to get the material here. Iy will have to wait until I get back from work in September. I will post the outcome once I get it done. By the way how do you attach a photo?

SeaCast is a good product, and will do well by you.
