Right now we use the rubber-like blocks that attach to the kayak and then lash to the rails. Problem is we have to scoot forward so it clears the bimini. I've been looking to add some rails to the existing so we could set the kayaks higher. Having the storage capacity there too makes so much sense. Even with two kayaks monted to what you have, I could still throw a bag or two in. Might add some vertical kayak mounts to something like you have so the kayaks rest on their sides (as on a car top).
 
At times I'd like to use both the full enclosure cabin bimini and the canvas pilothouse covering that C-Dory provides (zipper door and side windows?). Unfortunately, they both use the mount rail on top of the pilothouse roof. Has anyoe come up with a way to use both at the same time? I've thought of velcro(ing) the canvas to the inner top of the pilothouse roof, but thought I'd ask before proceeding.
 
By pilothouse covering, do you mean the curtain that drops from the cabin top to the floor?

If so, mine snaps to the lip of the cabin top, and this works well. The sides attach with velcro strips which work just ok.

For me, I often use both the drop curtain and the bimini at the same time. The main reason for this is that on the 19 when traveling at speed, I get the "station wagon effect". Running in salt water I get a fine salt mist all over everything in the cabin. Not a huge issue, but it does cause dampness, and a film on the windows, seats, electronics etc. For this reason, I would highly recommend that the bimini and the drop curtain be attached so that you can use them at the same time.

Yes, the curtain! Mine appears to be made a bit differently. I can snap it closed to the sides of the pilothouse, but the top connects via the same roof channel as the bimini. I may have to do some artful velcro work.

Is that a heater on your port side cabin? Gotta be... or it's a built in pizza oven!!!
 
Pizza oven! Now that would be cool. It is a Dickenson propane heater, and it is even better than a pizza oven. I run it on 1 pound propane bottles and get about 7 or 8 hours of nice dry heat out of each bottle. I moved the seat back a few inches and have plenty of room to sit without knee banging. A great addition to the boat.


Did C-Dory do your canvas?

Yes, it is a stock curtain. That's probably the problem... designed with no thought to a full bimini added. Looks like I will be modifying the stock piece.

Dang... I still like the idea of a pizza oven. Saw a news story on TV this AM of an old firetruck restored and converted into a full, rolling pizza parlor. Why not a C-Dory... jeepers people would sure like you! (so now I just gave away, free, the idea that would have made me a millionaire)
 
I too would like the option to use either canvas. I now use the same track over the pilot house for both camper and drop down, one at a time. I have an extra track and am thinking of installing it forward of the existing track and using the forward track for the camper back. BUT, This would move the camper back forward by several inches. :roll: I'm wondering if this will totally screw up the fix with the snaps. :?: One of these days before it starts snowing I'm going to check it out without drilling any new holes. :idea
I placed a pannel in the lower part of the entrance foward and set it up for a Mr. Heater. Works great but I worry about the 20 gals. of fuel just 6 ft. away from the flame. Well I'm still here :D :thup
 
I played with the two pieces and one track for about an hour recently. I just couldn't see how I could make it work short of installing some snaps on the curtain and hook right behind the track or up underneath the roof line. My guess is you are right... using a forward track for the bimini would reposition snap locations.

Given the cabin bimini is the more expensive of the two, I am leaning to modifications to the curtain. Will probably end up cutting my losses!

Velcro is the tool used by those without confidence in their craftsmanship!
 
I was thinking ( In my minds eye ) that I might some how position the second track almost on top of the existing track and therefore only slightly tighten the camper back. May not have to move snaps.
 
I'm not familiar with the 19 CD but it sounds like a solution would be a double sided snap on the first canvas to be attached. A female snap to attach to the rail and them a male snap on the other side of the canvas(back side of the female snap) to accept the second canvas' snap. Could not find this configuration in WM or Defender's catalogs but it seems worth a check with canvas shop to see if this could be done;simply replace the set of snaps that attach to the rail on one canvas; probably the cheapest solution if it can be done.

After thinking more about my post immediately above, a regular male and female snap should work; the trick is getting them attached to each other and the canvas and still to work. You might need to devise your own rivet or maybe a pop rivet would work.
