I am looking at buying a 19' Angler with a 75 hr 4 stroke Honda. Does anyone have experience with this motor- and if so is it good or bad experience? Does it have good power. I will be using the boat at a higher elevation around 7800 feet for general cruising and fishing. I also would like to put a kicker on the boat- any suggestions.
Look forward to any information.

I don't know the weight difference between the 19 and 22 Cruiser and I'm not going to guess except to say my. 22 is heavier. My boat came with twin 40 Yamaha's making it 80 hp. I will say that it is sufficient for my use at sea level. I have not used it at any other altitude nor do I have any experience to relate that to.

My twin 40's are adequate but I would prefer 50's. That may happen at some point.

Propping makes a big difference. You need someone that knows what they are doing to save a lot of trial and error there.

Good luck wifh your adventure.

You will need to drop the pitch of the prop significantly from what you will run at sea level. Generally 2" decrease in pitch for every 3500 feet of elevation gain.

At 7800 feet you will not have 75 hp--you will have closer to 55hp. If you keep the boat light, you might be OK. Honda owner's manual says you will loose 3.5% for each 1000 feet of elevation, or about 21 HP loss. I don't know about a 19, but 55 hp on a 22 is very marginal.

The weight difference is over 300lb from 22cruiser to 19 angler and the cruiser will have more storage for more stuff . I had a 22 cruiser with a 90 (100) hp suzuki and it had plenty of power at sea level . The honda 75 uses a 1.6 engine block same as the 90 hp honda . The 22 cruiser (duck) had a 50 honda when I bought it It got up on plane with 1/2 fuel and 3 big guys (over 700lb)on her at sea level she would do 15-17 mph tops about 12mph cruise . we put the 90 suzuki on her and it did 36mph and we sold the honda 50 to pay for install and parts .
So if you only have 55hp on the cd 19 on Lake powell you still will be able to get up on plane .If there are other 19 cd with bigger motors go for it but if price is right put a perma trim on and change pitch down and your good to go . Good Luck in your quest Jim

Good catch on the elevation! Missed that. 75 is a fine engine but repitching likely. I run my 22 with the Yamaha 90 pitched to 13 1/4 x 15 and on Lake Powell I saw 5500 wot even with our full load. I think the standard prop on 75 was the same as on the 90 of 13 1/2 x17 If you run light may be ok in SLC Good luck on the boat. George

We have a Honda BF90D on our 19 Angler. At sea level, with 3 on board, light gear and topped up on fuel running a 15" prop WOT is 34mph. I have often thought that a 75 would be an even better match for our purposes. Ran the boat for the first season without a Permatrim. Installing one definitely improved the control over bow pitch. It's money well spent!

The 19 is just a shortened 22 hull. It does tend to need more lift in the stern than the 22 to get up on plane. That's why trim tabs are standard on the 19 (or at least were) and a permatrim or other foil may help as well.

We had a customer with a yamaha 60 on a 19 (they bought it used), and they were not happy with the performance.

Taking into account the elevation, I worry that the 75 will be under powered. Only a sea trial would tell for sure.
