17 years gone by. Not an even number but, impressive if you used to know me back then. Now let's party! :smilep :beer :cocktail :cigar :crook

Hello Sea Beagle II,

Eighteen years for me, as of July 3rd.

On that day, standing in a bar listening and watching these guys who could remember every ball game stat but obviously could not control their own lives,I suddenly realized that there must be something wrong with me to seek out their associating.

So, set down my unfinished Scotch, walked out and never drank a drop of alcohol since and now wonder why I did in the first place.

When telling this story over the years, I also say, that “I’ll bet that I could walk back into that bar today and they would be finishing the same sentience that I walked out on”, it was always the same stuff/nonsence being told/said over and over.

Anyway congratulations, you are not alone.

How about same time next year?

Regard,

Ron Fisher

Good job! :) I've had many friends dragged down by drinking and/or drugs. Michigan (and the upper midwest in general) is a hard place to stay clear of alcohol I've found (winters, culture, etc.) my hat off to you. Stay the course that works for you.

Fifty years for me!

When I was young, I looked into the bottle and realized there was nothing but trouble inside for me so I never even started.

My route had to be a heck of a lot easier than yours!

My friends who had problems and got sober seem to appreciate sobriety more than they could have imagined before. They are also aware of the danger that lurks around the corner.

Congrats on your discipline.

Never had a problem besides college drinking, but it has been 22 years since any alcohol. I saw the destruction in my extended family to know better.

Hey, Brats! Next month on the 19th I will have 33 years without alcohol. I mean not a drop! Over 32 years without a cigarette.
A few years ago at a boating get-together I was approached by an individual who said, "So, what's up with this NO drinking"?
I replied, "The irony is I don't drink because I like it, NOT because I don't like it." She walked away with her drink in hand and a confused look on her face.

Congratulations Seabeagle! Of the three alternatives, sobered up beats locked up and covered up every time. Here's to living the good life...one day at a time.

Good for you. I used to drink some and thu I never had a problem stopping on Monday a lot of my friends did. A lot more were into drugs in a big way. I looked at them and at others who were not drinking/drugs and decided there was nothing there for me. Same goes for gambling. Now 20 years later when I look at those from school that made it that those that did not its amazing the one thing those that did not have in common, drugs and booze. Very happy that you choose to join us.

There certainly is truth in that if you want to live a long time then you don't smoke, drink, do drugs, or eat too much. And your reward: a lifetime of suffering.....LOL....I still drink a couple on birthdays, Thanksgiving, or some other special occasion, but it has been a long time that it has been a routine. Good for you staying dry for so long.

Congratulations and continued overcoming. Best to you (and all the rest who did likewise). 28 years of working ambulance, and ER gave me frequent reminders of why my choice not to use was a good choice.

Not perfect, by a long shot, but certainly sober.
