I am about to mount 2 Scotty electric 1106 downriggers - and I'm in the planning stage assembling some of the required bolts and wiring supplies. I have also bought a Deep Blue Sea fuse block - 6 circuits, which I will mount in the interior slash well shelf. This will give me 1 fused circuit per rigger and one fused circuit for a bilge pump and 3 spares--never know if more circuits are required--eh. The run from the battery to the Fuse Block (FB) will be #6 gauge and less that a 2 ft run. Then #10 gauge from the FB to the riggers, again short runs of 3' or less and the wires will be in run a small plastic pipe "conduct", run again inside the slash shelf well.
My question is: "what is the thickness of the gunnel". I was going to use 1/2 plywood backing plates and large stainless washers. My guess is 2 1/2 inch bolts should do it -- what say you who have drilled and bolted thru your gunnels?
