16 or 19?

I am going to buy aC-Dory in the spring and am trying to decide between a 16'Cruiser and the 19' Angler. I would appreciate any advise on this topic, especially by 19' owners.I live in Central BC and will have to trailer at least 450 miles to the Pacific.

I have a 19ft C-Dory and love it. We were faced with the same choice last year. A lot has to do with what you want to do with the boat and what you have for a tow rig. A 16 will fish one person great 2 people ok. It can be towed very easy with most any vehicle. A 19 can fish 2 people great and 3 or 4 ok. I had to pick up a full sized truck to tow it without having to worry about hills as I did with my Toyota P/U. If you have a wife like I do that wants to go with ya the 19 is a must as you have room for a porta-potty in the 19 not in the 16. Thats what sold my wife on the upgrade. You also have a V birth in the 19 that will sleep 2 cozy, the 16 only a small storage area.

If you can find a dealer that has both for you to see and look at them, there is a huge difference in space between them. I believe it comes down to what you want to to with it and what you have to tow it with. You can find 16's used never seen a used 19 as only around 50 have been made. You will be happy with either one as they are great boats that catch a lot of attention and fish :D .

I have a 03 4Runner which is rated for 5000lbs so it should tow either ok,
but will most likely be launching and loading single-handed.Thanks for the
input.

Glen, My sister taught in Williams Lake back a few years. Got to Quesnel a few times on trips to Prince Rupert and Barkerville. Went to Horsefly, Big Lake Ranch and Likely. Nice country. Lot's of good C-Dory lakes in your area.

I have a 19 and I launch and retrieve by myself most of the time. The only problems that I may have is a retrieve in a strong wind. Then I drive it on the trailer. It can be tricky, but I am getting better at it. No damage to the boat-yet! It trailers great. If I were going to trailer as much as you plan on, I think that I would have a double axle trailer.

You mentioned a 450 mile trip to the Pacific. Would that be Bella Coola? It has been 35 years since I was out there. How are the roads today? It was a bit of an adventure in 1970.

Hi Robbi,

Bella Coola is one option and guess what? That road really hasn't changed much since 1970. 2 years ago they made an attempt to widen it
and almost lost one section.
I think Prince Rupert is a better bet, no big hills and a very pretty trip to boot.
I met two fellows from Michigan in Terrace this summer.They had towed a 22'er out and were going up the Alaska panhandle.Hope they had a good trip.

We have a 16 Cruiser and have never spent a night on board. Unless you're sure (and we thought we were) you're going to actually cruise rather than day use the boat I'd go with the 16 Angler.

19 Angler has a better berth setup and is wider.

Price difference is significant, as are the power requirements.

I have fished three big guys out of my 16 Angler on numerous occassions, and I am 6'3"/250. We have a big cooler with cushions that doubles as a bench seat. I have made 18 knots, in chop, with three guys with my 40 horse Johsnon two stroke. Last friday we had a double hook up on both downriggers with three of us in the boat. The driver reeled in our dipseys as two of us fought the fish, nobody bumped into each other. People laugh like hell when they see us....but our small boat, running less rigs, has taken some of the biggest chinook out of Milwaukee this year.
 
hello I have a 19 ft. fish with two people most of the time and trailer from Edmonton, alberta to the work channel at least once a year, last year I had an itchy foot and made the trip twice
