Diane and I have planned to come. It's on the calendar...

However, we don't know yet if we will have visitors from Germany at that time.

I sure would love to go back and catch a bunch of rock fish again...

Dear All Catalina Island Enthusiasts:

We are happy to be able to schedule the 15th Annual Catalina Off-Shore Adventure for Sunday, July, 31, 2016 to Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Two Harbors (West End, Santa Catalina Island), California. Please mark your calendars to reserve the dates. These dates are essentially the same as last year.

Unlike the Delta and Bay Extravaganza, there are no boat number limits for this event. Also, unlike our other event, for this outing you can drop in, and out, at any time you want. The Extravaganza is a "disciplined forced march", whereas the Off-Shore Adventure is a "laid back Jimmy Buffett party".

As of now we already have the following five vessel attendees:

1. Pounder, (Jim & Kath)
2. Dinner Belle II, (John & Robbin)
3. Dora-Jean, (Steve, et. al)
4. Far C’r, (Floyd and Eiko)
5. SEA3PO, (Joel and Susan).

Also maybe Lighthouse Express (Heinz and Diane) will come.

Please come one, and come all, and sign up on this thread that you will be showing up. More information will be forthcoming.

This has got to be the longest running C-Brat (previous C-Dog) event on this entire website, and for good reason. We would love to see some new faces, and more old timers, come. Someday we may not be able to do this anymore so become a part of history and please come to the event.

If you have any concerns about going to this off-shore event, please contact me for more information. Look at details for last year to get an idea of our itinerary.

More on this "party" later.

Sincerely,
Jim and Kath

And the C-Tales Continue

It's been many years since I've been out to Catalina Island, and it's somewhere that I would love to get back to sometime. Will it be this summer? Possibly, but low possibility right now. I would like to hear more about the open water part of the voyage. (My open water experience in my CD-22 has been somewhat limited in somewhat protected waters of Lake Michigan and Green Bay. And the narrow channels of the San Juan Islands.
If I were able to come out, it would be a last minute kind of thing. Preceeded by at least 4 or 5 days travel out from Wisconsin.
I'll see if I can find earlier threads to read about the past gatherings. But would love to hear more about the experiences of others at this gathering in the past. Colby

Hi Colby!

Here is a video I made of the last Catalina trip. We were only able to stay for one day because of elderly uncle care but it will give you an idea of what it is like

https://youtu.be/mrQNb459vzY?list=PLIrx4PZy6ioHmF7xWcriBnUf-1ffoIK8W

From Marina Del Rey, where most C-Brats launch it is about 37 miles to Two Harbors and unless there is a very strong Santa Ana Wind blowing the waters down here are pretty tame, nobody will go if the weather isn't safe

Hope to see you, Jim knows how to have a gathering!

Hey, I think I'm going to join in again this year. Two new engines on Sealife need some cruising hours, and Muffy and I need some R&R. Look forward to seeing old and new friends.

I prefer the trip from Sunset Aquatic in Huntington Harbor. Very good secure parking, good ramps, wash down, and only about 25 miles.

Santana winds are very unusual in the summer, but I have encounter some South Easterly winds, which can bring up a bit of a chop. If you delay your leaving Two Harbors to Marina Del Ray, to after noon, you will most likely have some significant chop.

Wish we could be there-still looking at ways to get there at least one day. Dogs are not allowed in campground, cabins or rental units on the Island--so that leaves borrowing a friend's boat, or trailering ours out....

Jim & Kath Gibson put on a first class event!

Dear All.

We are seeking some more participants for our Catalina Event. We have six to seven vessels signed up right now. We could (should) easily have another five vessels. Please sign up on this thread for the fun event.

Even if you do nothing at Two Harbors it is a wonderful place to hang out as the weather is a perfect 75 degrees every day with a slight breeze in the afternoon. This is truly a relaxing place one you get over there.

If you have been before, please sign up again. If you have never gone, please sign up and you will not regret it.

I am already thinking about my buffalo milk drink at the Two Harbors cantina.

I'll be traveling with Kimiko in Japan when you guys meet at Catalina. I regret missing this event. I wish you a fun and safe week of Island Time.

Be well,

We're considering the Catalina Island trip. Will there be a flotilla of boats going over at the same time? If so, where is the launch point and when?

SEA3PO will not be making the jaunt to Catalina....Joel has "age degenerating discs", in his back, ......which all got together and failed at the same time. He had an epidural several weeks ago, which clearly has not worked. He is scheduled for surgery on August 5th. He won't be able to put dancing shoes on at that time, but he should be able to move much more freely and be out of the terrible pain he has been in. Of course, surgery will be followed by a stint in rehab!!!

Marie and I send out best to Joel--We have both been in his "position". Hopefully the surgery will be successful. We have both have several surgeries, and results allow reasonable function. (Which means that the important function in life of running a C Dory returns!)
