12/13 - Lake WA & Locks Cruise

Larry - hopefully you can make it and hopefully you could drag Olgrowth Dave's butt up this way with you. You know how he loves to drive to/through/in Seattle!

I'm all for Ivar's. Do they keep their float out this late in the season?

Tim - I believe their float is in the water year round.

I am hoping to make this one as I missed last years'. Can someone suggest where I can launch and park for 3 days/2 nights? Bellevue appears to restrict you to 24 hours. Not sure about Seward Park.

Wow, that's a tough one. Bellevue (40th Street) will also be closed for renovations for the entire month of December, and Mercer Ilsand does not allow overnight parking. Probably Magnuson Park at Sand Point is your best bet? Maybe somebody knows some place else? As a last resort, launch at Eddie Vine at Shilshole, parking three days there is fine, and come back through the locks...

I'd recommend the Magnuson Park Boat Launch. That's where I'll be launching. It's a good 2- ramp launch although it can be a bit rough if there's a good wind out of the south (as there was last year). According to this link, parking is $7/day with "Overnight parking not to exceed 4 consecutive days." The only downside is that the road is closed between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. so you need to get in and out during semi normal hours.

Although I hate the drive through town to get there, sounds like Magnuson Park is the answer. Thanks for the help. Hope I can make it. Saw a gloomy weather forecast for thursday and friday before that weekend. Won't be much of a problem for all you natives up there, but it could complicate my trip up from Salem.

Well, I wouldn't rule out Coulon Park in Renton, I had kind of forgotten about that because 40th Street is so much closer for us. It is certainly easier to get to from freeways that Magnuson Park is, and as Marty says, it is a very nice facility.

JUST CHECKED THE EXTENDED FORCAST. SNOW FRIDAY PM SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. GOOD THING THEY ARE WRONG A MAJORITY OF THE TIME.

So -- where and when for those of us not boating in? If it is snowing we probably will wimp out...

I liked the idea of Ivar's. Nice long dock, pretty central no matter where anyone is starting from. Heck, it's pretty close to an I-5 exit, too (University District, 45th). Not sure about the time.

I am going to wait till wednesday to decide whether to drive up from oregon or not. I don't mind the cold but don't relish towing home in the snow, and the weather report in nw oregon is very threatening.

weather report

looks to me as of 11 am monday that we are going to get cold on saturday but not any snow to speak of. It will be cold enough but not enough moisture to make snow. That beening said we could be in for some road ice which does not thrill me in the least. We sill know more on thursday and should be able to decide if we are going to show or not. really want to show up but Iam not drivning in the snow or even ice. Which brings up towing. I you are towing in and it looks like a chance of ice I would not launch at Magnuson Park. There is not flat way in from the highway. I would and will come in from the 405 and Bothel way (522) to the 68th ave ramp on the sammish river. No hills that way. lot safer and if the wind is up it makes launching easier.

Do any of you computer guru/geeks know why when I save the url of a zoomed in map it will not provide a link to the map but only to the world map?

Yes, I know why.

Oh...perhaps you wanted an answer?

Everything done via a Google Maps application (like the one you linked to), is handled via javascript. The address of the page doesn't change when you navigate through the map - javascript handles all of your input, and it's separate from the page address.

However, smart page designers make up for this, but creating an alternative link button - that will load the page, passing it necessary data to redisplay the map per your wishes. Fortunately, the geogarage folks did this at the site you linked to.

Look in the bottom left corner of a map that you have zoomed in on. There's a "link" link. Click on it, and the URL will change - use that when you post here or elsewhere.

First I would like to thank Da nag for his help. I knew it was somewhere, I just did not know where.

Second, Sorry I not get back in time to see just your first smart a$$ remark. It is all I have come to expect of you

No really, I know what I dont know about computer's and slowly learn more and more every day. Mostly I learn how much more I dont know.

Tom-

Is the ramp just to the right end of the marina at the upper left of the map/photo nearby what appears to be a seaplane?

We could ask Bill how to write over one of these maps, but we've probably taken enough abuse for one day!

Joe.
