$10 burger

Choices! Choices! Now and again Dotty and I like to venture over to the Bay Cafe at Fisherman's Terminal on Sunday for their fantastic omlettes. Yesterday, however, we took a NJ visitor to the Locks and, of course, the Troll and our new friend Lenin in Fremont. Then we crossed the Ballard bridge and stopped at Bay Cafe for a late lunch. I had a hamburger-no fries, just lettuce, tomato, raw onion, ketchup and a kosher dill pickle on the side. Holy mackeral! A full half pound of m-e-a-t! with fresh everything else. Only the hamburger roll disappointed. Not a bad Seattle deal for $7.95, although just typing that amount for a burger still gives me indigestion. :thup

Want a good Burger?
Try the "Spot" in Carpinteria, CA. :thup :thup
or "Tinkers" in Summerland, CA. :thup :thup
These are both small town burger stands.

Want a good torta- try the Taqueria El Bajio on Milpas St in Santa Barbara, CA :thup :thup

For fish tacos, go to Snapper Jacks Taco Shack on Telegraph Rd in Ventura, CA.--- grilled fish tacos on soft corn tortillas :thup :thup

Dang it, now I've gone and made myself hungry

I have to add to this list--- BBQ
WOW---- Baby Blues BBQ in Venice, CA on Lincoln, aka Hwy 1.
Went there yesterday with my Son--- I will be back!

Back in the time there was a place in Prineville Oregon (the Mountain Burger Hut I believe) that served a Mountian Burger, on a dinner plate, and it hung over, all the way around. The fries or potato salad came on a second plate ~~ $4.95 back then. Heart attack on a plate.

There is also a burger place in Yakima, WA called "Minor's" that serves pretty great burgers, and folk line up on a regular basis.

(Disclaimer) Burgers are not my usual fare, and have decreased that consumption considerably over the years, but there was a time.)

All this commentary and nothing about In and Out? The best burgers and fries anywhere. How far north have they gotten? California still has some advantages.

Hear Hear :!:

I had an In & Out Burger the other day. Mighty tasty! Besides the good burger and fries, I watched as the line to order was constant. Here is a business that has stayed true to their core product, continues to make 'em good, and the employee morale in that place was right up there.

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned in this?

Best wishes,

Well, I am compelled to resurrect this important topic. As some of you know, a few weeks ago I drove my daughter's car across country, from NJ to Sammamish. The ostensible purpose was her relocation to our spare bedroom, since, apparently, NJ no longer needs librarians. But that's another story. . I used the time on the road to sample the hamburger fare in fly-over country. I did find some big, some inexpensive, some well prepared, and some nicely presented. But, nowhere did I find one single burger meeting all the criteria. Until today that is. Just a few hours ago Dotty and stopped in a Dennys located on the Boise airport ring road. And, and...it was not $10, not $9 but, wait for it..$6! If you plan to be in the Boise area stop in for what is certainly the best hamburger in America. If you're not in the Boise area, change you plans and go there. Thanks.
