John , just saw your post . If you have torsion axles , do not use a weight distributing hitch . I would make sure you have adequate tongue weight . That will be the first thing to cause "wagging" . 5-7% is fine , 10% is borderline too much on a boat . Remember its a boat, not an RV.
For slips call 850.653.3700 [Water Street Hotel] and speak with Leigh. She will take care of you . They have nice clean bathrooms and are a great location in relationship to the Rivercrest location .Scipio Creek Marina is right up the creek [literally] from Water Street Hotel . Its is another alternative to Water Street with gas , "Papa Joes" restaurant and useable but not "posh" bathrooms/showers . Power and water there too.
We start the Tampa Show this coming week , but Ill be monitoring the thread for more questions .

No wagging! I just read that weight distibuting hitches were good. Already researved a slip at Water Street hotel. We were thinking about getting a room also but when would we use it? Three rooms and three slips taken so far.

No particular signup except on the site here , Ill pm you later with ideas of where to stay and such .

fom earlier post
"The Town is Apalachicola 32320 .
The location of the fun is Here
If you need lodging or slip info ,let me know .
Marc"

Folks are doing both . the Water Street Hotel 850.653.3700 has some slips and rooms reserved for "Wefings C Dory Gathering" Ask for Leigh and she will take care of you .They will dissapear [rooms] in a few days as they have a wedding coming that weekend
Alternantly, there is a a spot that can fit 6 or 8 boats with no power , but porta pottis at the Rivercrest locaction . Some folks stay there .
There is the City Marina and Scipio Creek Marina . Both have power and water . The Gibson and Apalachicola River Inn are walking distance from Battery Park City Marina .
If you read the previous posts you will garner some info .

It doesn't look like Rivercrest is on the water. Where do most of the boats dock? We had planned on staying on our 22' boat. What other options are there. We can't walk far. Also need a place to leave the Jeep & trailer. We know where you are. We bought our 16' C-Dory from you all in 2008. Just sold it in August and bought the 22' C-Dory.

RiverCrest is up Sipio Creek. Look at the albums of last gatherings. Google Earth shows the center of "RiverCrest" the building is at:
29* 44' 53.63" N x 85* 01' 6.63" W. Other mapping applications may show slightly other variations.

There is a ramp at River Crest--you can launch there--there is parking there. We will most likely be in our 42 foot RV, which is 13+ feet wide, and have lots of room for several other similar size vehicles.

If you don't want to launch there, launch at the Apalachicola Marina and come up Scipio Creek--but unless you are following someone else, or have looked at an aerials, the way on the water may be a little harder to find.

The Address is 501 Bay City Road. We come down 98 from the West, and turn off just past the Airport on Airport Road. That dead ends into Bluff Road. Go left (North West) to Shanon on the left and Smith on the Right; Turn Right--short block turn left onto Bay City Road. When you come to River Crest on the Right, it is a double road--dirt/gravel. Turn right--and go to the end. If you are looking at hybrid aerial views, the square building of River Crest stands out--the road is obscured, but you can see the canal.

If you want to PM me I'll send you my phone number and help guide you in either by water or land.

The Gulf Coast Intercoastal Waterway must be open  between Panama City, FL and Choctawhatchee Bay.

Because I am now seeing large barges pushed by big tug boats cruising in the GCIW.

If they can get thru any size boat that we have can also get thru.

Rivercrest has water ! Thanks Bob for fielding the question . That canal was dug along time ago and was grandfathered in . It may not show up on all maps . Just a meander up Scipio Creek and the entrance is marked from the water side .

Did some feast planning this AM with my restaurant guru Danny from Tamaras Café Floridita. Getting exited for our event . We have a good crew coming and I am trying to rustle up some new attendees and make this a great event as always ! We will look forward to seeing everybody !

We plan on staying in the boat with temps around 72 in the daytime and have a slip reserved at Water Street Hotel. They said they had parking for my rig. I assumed this was the "host hotel" and that they have a ramp. I am unable to walk far and hope this the case.

On our last adventure the ramp was a mile away, the hotel didn't provide a shuttle and I couldn't get a cab. I ended up hitch hiking. They just don't pick up hitch hikers in Stuart, Fl.

I'm hoping the drive there doesn't do me in as it's about 7 hours and over 300 miles, only about 3 hours of which are on Interstates. Still thinking risk vs. reward. Since we have our own dock I don't have a lot of experience pulling that large (wide) a trailer. Let's just say it's been a few years. I'm hoping I can arrive, put the boat in the water, park the rig and be done with it. Also thinking about coming Thursday instead of Friday. This is outside my comfort zone, thus a true adventure, just wish it lasted longer.

Still need to put her in the water this week and make sure everything is ship shape. Maybe add another coat of Teak oil on the upper deck. It's hard to work outside with the humidity and temps in the 90s here now.

Mark-Can you bring a tongue weight scale and maybe a spare tire holder?

Thanks!
John

Hey Guys!

There are several events going on in the area this weekend and all of our "Boutique" Hotels are full. I did check with The Best Western Apalach Inn and they have plenty of clean rooms available this weekend. The address is 249 Hwy 98, Apalachicola and their number is 850-653-9131. Their rate is $99/night Fri and Sat (less the other days) with AAA or AARP. There are only about 6 miles from the gathering so give them a call!

See ya there,

Ron :D

Taking the Blues Cruiser out tomorrow to see if it still runs when I stir up any tank sediment that's collected in the past five months. We're hoping to drive up on Thursday. Although we have a slip at water street hotel I understand they don't have a ramp. Can anybody give me an address and directions to the nearest ramp? How far is RiverCrest? Hoping someone is there to help with transportation as wife will not drive truck and trailer combo.

Thanks!
John
