10/17 - 10/19 - Gulf Coast Extravaganza

Hey all...a big thanks a million to Marc and John and all the helpers who made this a fun, interesting and delicious weekend! Shirley and I had a blast and enjoyed immensely making new friends, checking out the great boats, plus going for a cruise on Fishwife. Everyone made us feel welcome and we look forward to seeing several of you out there on the water during the next year.

We had a wonderful time, the cruise up the st. marks was great, I had to catch up to you all cause we left late, but c-brats stayed on the VHF to guide us up to the group. We are new and just a 16 cruiser, but boy we sure felt wecome. Great group, Great BBQ.

P.S. Hey Hunky Dory how was the Wakulla cruise?

We had a great time. Thanks again to John Bone, Sherry Bone (our hosts) and Mark Grove of Wefing's!

Thataway arrived back at "home" on Perdido Bay in 8 hours on the water--200 miles. Not a cheap trip--since we used about 200 gallons of gas on the entire trip--prices ranged from $3.55 to $4.45 a gallon! We had a great trip back and the heavier winds did not materalize, and we had mostly a smooth trip, with following wind and seas.

I will be posting my talk on safety, along with some photos on a specific thread.

So good to see old friends, and meet new ones!

What a fun weekend, even with the wind.

Sorry that I wimped out and trailered the boat this year--when the boss flexes her muscles I usually listen.

I hope we don't have to wait a full year to see everyone again.

Nancy and I would like to thank everyone that we met and everyone involved with the gathering. Fun times.

Joy , we missed ya at the gathering .Good to see Byrdman and everyone both new and veteran gatherers . It was great to see everybody and we are looking forward to a bigger and better event next year ! I want to thank my staff for all their help , Jef and his wife Melissa , Doug, and our Melissa , as well as Charlie and our Honda Guru Allan . Thanks to all .
I am in Seattle with Doug , our head mechanic spending the week with C Dory, Ranger Tugs, Defince, and Arima . They ordered sunshine for us and we are meeting the folks that build the products and learning alot .
If any of you that haven't made the trip here to see the factories , it a very interesting trip . They are very hospitable and it is interesting to see how the boats are made .
Ill post some pics as well
Marc

What an absolute hoot the Extravaganza was. C-Tide just got bedded down here in the 'ham. Gotta go blast the salt off her tomorrow. Good to meet and greet with other brats, looking forward to next time.

I hate that we could not make it. From the pictures it looks like there was a great group present. While we at Yellowstone my dad and brother made plans for us to go to wine country. (Solvang, Ca). We are here now. Hope we can make it next year. Marc I hope you saved me at least one oyster.. I'll see you in a couple of weeks.

Roger

It was with regret that Judy and I were not able to attend this years geathering. We are leaving tomarrow on a sailing vacation to the Keys and being in the "Joe the Plumber" workforce, we could not take two vacations so close togeather. It sounds like you had a great group to show up and as usual, the food and entertainment were top notch.

As to flrockytop's request for the last oyster, I hope the 3 dozen Marc sent back by Jim for me were not the last ones. But in the future Marc, I find "Already Shucked" to tase much better. :D

Count on us to be there next year.

Aw Shucks , next year maybe we will have a shucking contest . That's an easy way to get a bunch of oysters shucked real quick . Have fun in the Keys . We missed you . We need to keep those little dogs on the dock next year if Bubbles is still around !

Just getting back to the Byrd nest after some time on the road to include a trip back down to the Gulf to see some of my C-Brat friends, Joe Wheelwer State Park to see some of my American Great Loop Cruisers Assc friends, followed by another trip back down to the Gulf for a few wonderful night in Orange Beach, AL with a couple other C-Brats....and now back home.

Yes, it was a blast again.

Thanks to John and Sherry for once again opening their home and docks to us.
Thanks to the Wefing's staff who all worked very hard to serve some great foods once again.
Thanks to Bob and Nancy on ASHLEY LYNN for allowing me to jump on board with them....and thier gen set. That was simply a blast to be able to serve the boats in the river trip and add a touch of Margaritaville....straight from the cockpit while enjoying a great river trip once again, with John Bone leading the way. That is wonderful of him to do this each year and speaking for myself, same little river area, but WOW...it is a great trip that all need to take part in.

Wonderful time. Yes, as asked by several at this C-Brat event, we will do an early spring C-Brat Gathering on the Cumberland once some schedules are a bit clearer. Looking forward to having several of you back in my home waters, and....seeing some of you show that have not yet enjoyed the Cumberland/Nashville TN area via the waters.

Thanks to all of you who cruise the waters and make the C-Brat events bringing your local knowledge, actual just went thru there knowledge, bringing your cruising maps, and sharing the great anchorages on our waters. I enjoyed the map stuff at the tables. GREAT STUFF!

Bob Austin: Thanks for your time and input. Great safety class, great slides on some of your travels.

Below a pic of this years river travels....and a pic from trips past on John Bone's boat Blue Fox in which we landed a nice 58# Wahoo!!!
