10/14 - 10/16 - Apalachicola Gathering

Where do most folks stay down there; is there one motel where most folks gather, or do they just stay where they can and hang together at the River Crest meeting room? We won't have a boat as it's still in my shop, but are considering making the trip. We had been planning on the Annapolis Powerboat Show, but are rethinking as there is perhaps some possibility we might learn more about C-Dory's at this gathering than up Ego Alley...

We've not been to any C-Brat gatherings before and don't know the protocol regarding group dinners and want to make sure we kick in to share costs and labor.

By the way - this is all Marc's fault... :D

Marc usually has arranged some special rates at the Water street Hotel. The Gibson or the River Inn are popular. A few have stayed on St. Georges Island. At times there have been a cabin or so out near River Crest available. Check with Marc for specifics this year. Sign up now--because this is not far away. There may be some less expensive places in town.

The activities are basically all at the River Crest. The meals are provided by Marc--with the exception of lunches. I have "passed the hat" to allow folks to put in what they think it is worth to them, for several dinners, breakfasts and the commradery.

Some of us who cannot bring our boats for various reasons, bring types of RV's--boater home camping occurs, Never had any tents, but why not..sleeping bags on the porch?

I'll check on accommodations further tomorrow and book 'em. Once that's done I'll confirm on the gathering sign-up here.

Thanks, doctor... 'Twill be good to see you again.

tomherrick,

You might also check out the Best Western in Apalachicola. We are staying there. Nice and clean, good rooms, pool, and free breakfast.

There are several good Bed and Breakfast places.

Also the El Rancho Motel. Not as nice.

We have also stayed at the Main Stay Inn in Port St. Joe about 30 miles away when everything in Apalachicola was booked. This place is a fine motel.

Google accommodations in Apalachicola.

You will have the best time ever in a C-Dory.

Well, booked a room at El Rancho for about half the price. Had to use the phone as their Web site keeps changing to the current date... But, it'll be just fine 'cuz we'll be there.

El Rancho has improved from years past [changed hands] , so that's probably an economical choice . The Water street is proud of their nice location and doesn't give much of a break these days, but still has slips in the marina and good bathrooms and floating docks . The Gibson is fun and a great downtown location as well as the Apalachicola River Inn . I think Duck [Jim] has one of the cabins and the other may be available . You can call Dolores Roux at 850.653.9081
We might have a slip or two at the city marina under the bridge as well . Crude bathrooms , no shower but usually free !
We look forward to seeing everybody !
Marc

Good to hear the good news about El Rancho's improvement. Looks like a coupla steps up from the Sportsman's Lodge... ...which will suffice for a one-nighter with a roof.

Has anyone stayed at the Buccaneer Inn on St. George? My wife likes to walk on the beach in the morning so was planning on booking a room there.

Apalachicola Gathering 10/2016

Brenda and I regret having to withdraw from this gathering. We have attended every year for nine years since Mark with Wefings Marine first began this event. Memories of old friends will be cherished and of course taking our beloved "Falcon" out across the bay to explore an old shipwreck in the cut will be just a vision in the mind's eye.

However age related health issues has taken it's told.

THANK YOU Mark with Wefings Marine

@BillE I've not stayed there, but drove by it this afternoon. No way to tell about the rooms, but the outside said to me, "OK", not fancy. I'm at the Sportsman's Lodge in Eastpoint and it is OK if you don't mind a delaminating luan bathroom door and kitchen cabinets. It's actually a reasonably clean room, but if yer into amenities, keep movin'...

@Bill & Brenda Our first Apalachicola Gathering; sorry to miss some of the venerables at this event. Hope you find your health improving in the near future.

I'm in town to meet with Mr. Grove tomorrow about trailer and repower options for my Frankenstein C-Dory project. I found the Rivercrest Lodge west of town about a mile and it's a rather nice-looking place. Looking forward to hanging and learning with y'all there.

P.S. The sunset tonight keeps getting better and better, with cool shadow rays in the higher altitudes. Nice...

Thanks Tom. My wife has booked us there for Wednesday and Thursday as she wants some walking on the beach time. We are moving to the Water Street Inn in Apalachicola for Friday and Saturday.
And I LOVE your frankenboat project!
Bill

Bill and Brenda, we will miss seeing you this year--thank heavens we did get to have some time with you on the Mississippi! I know that you mentioned at that time, about the boat, and issues. Marie and I say the same type of things--but we hope that we can keep going another few years...Hope that you do make it for a few days--or a cabin at Hontoon Island in March!

We will probably be at Rivercrest Thursday PM in the RV.

Man , we will all miss Bill and Brenda ! Sorry to hear that you cant make it this year . You guys are absolutely great and we will be thinking of you .
We have a few new folks and I am looking forward to a good gathering .
Marc

Hello Mark and gang Darrell & Julie Sisson from Martinsville, IN will enjoy their 2nd gathering. We are currently camping at St Andrews St Park in Panama City Beach, we will head down Friday Evening or Saturday morning.

We are still a year or two away from a C Dory, but look forward to seeing everyone again this year.

DS

Won't be the same without Bill and Brenda. We got Marc to sell our C-Tide for the same age crap. getting old is not for the weak.

Bob,

I've not gotten a response from Rivercrest as yet about camping facilities. Are you aware whether they have showers and associated facilities on site? We have a reservation at El Rancho, but are game for 'roughing-it' on our inflatable mattress should it pass floor trials here... I can't seem to glean much info from the Rivercrest Web site, but maybe I'm missing something.
