10/01 - 10/03 - Sequim Bay Fall Fling

Ahh Catman...

For us, part of the adventure is the cruise. We're a little closer than Everett, but it still looks like a reasonable distance for a day trip. We're planning slow and easy - maybe spot an Orca pod or two - I hear they've been spotted off Whidbey. We just put TwoLuckyFish back in the water yesterday after cleaning it up (it's been in the water 1 month), and loading it up. We even made curtains to match.

Of course, weather (wind/waves) will dictate. I sure do not want to pull it back out and trailer over! And I don't want to pay for a ferry to carry TwoLuckyFish across Admiralty Inlet - unless.....

Anyone else cruising up from the South? C-Run - Robbi, you still coming our way?

Mac & Linda

We'll be trailering north from Gig Harbor on Friday morning, launching Brave Heart at Fort Lagler State Park on the northern tip of Harrowstone Island then sneakin' a noontime ride on the slack through Admiralty Inlet. Morning fog will be dispersed and a glistening 70 degree sun is predicted to shine bright upon the still waters. It would be good to tag along with other C-Brats in that vicinity. What channel should we monitor?

Here are the plans for C-Run as of 8am Wed.

Plan #1, Trailer to Sequim Early Friday AM with Cordell who will then return rig to Steilacoom and then he can play with his cars and plane in the sunshine allll weekend. I will return by water route Sun/Mon.

Plan #2, leave Steilacoom by boat early Friday morning and meet up with Two Lucky Fish around South Whidbey and maybe Brave Heart somewhere around Marrowstone Island.

:idea Just thought of plan #3, leave Steilacoom thurs pm and stay at Blake Island thurs night, then off to the north Fri am.

I am leaning towards plan 3. TLF, what time do you think that you will head out?

It looks as if "low clouds" are the determining factor. The outlook for weather is good :hot , the tides are favorable...so think clear thoughts, (which by my number of plans, I am not!)

Robbi the clear headed

Brave Heart Bill, have you launched at Marrowstone Island? I wonder how protected it is from wind and burglers.

That might be a nice compromise. By the way, you'll find Brats on channel 68.

Hi Brock,
Evelyn and I have been to Ft. Flagler and, though there is no dock, we liked the look of the ramp and parking amenities. The water was calm during our visit. This launch has adjoining RV park which is sparsely populated with senior citizens out walking their dogs along the waterfront. Uniformed Park Rangers riding in golf carts and pick-up trucks were very visible. A mile or two south of Ft. Flagler is another launching ramp at Mystery Bay. This ramp is not so good and parking is limited.
We'll be looking and listening for you on Friday morning.

We're planning to head north from Sandy Hook (Cultus Bay) at about 10am on Friday.

We went out fishing first thing this am (well, first thing for us - probably around 8am). Posession Sound & Bar was completely socked in, sure glad we had all the electronics on board. Even needed the radar to see the channel pilings of the channel to get out of Cultus Bay. We headed up to Double Bluff and finally found sunshine around 9am. The shipping channels were clear as well. Linda then proceeded to land a 9 lb silver - just a beautiful fish, so we get to have salmon for dinner tonight (after I fillet it of course).

The water was smooth, the winds pretty calm. Just a great morning!

Mac & Linda

Linda and Mac, My plan is to leave here tomorrow and run to Kingston for the night. I will head out Friday am and look for you around 10am somewhere between Scatchet Head and Foulweather Bluff. I will be monitoring the radio. If it is foggy, I will lay low until it clears, so don't wait around. The weather forcasts look good. Hope to see you Fri am. Robbi

Linda, great job on the salmon!

If y'all go under the bridge on the west side of Indian Island we'll merge with you as we se sail from Fort Flagler State Park.

There will be an ebb tide during the morning hours on Friday. This will reveal some sand and rounded pebbles alongside the ramp. Also, we have hip waders if that will help. Can't imagine what you might want to load at this point in your journey ... but then, if you want to get loaded, it's entirely your choice.
Bill

Bill, I mean that I'm solo and need to park the truck and load my body.
TwoLuckyFish, yeah, I think I'd like to make it three (or four with Roberta). That will be a nice cruise to Sequim Bay.
:cat

Hey Brock, we cat lovers can help you with that. Just a matter of timing it right. Any idea what time you might make it to Ft. Flagner. We are flexible.
Bill

I have been going around and around trying to decide if I am going by boat or bringing the camper. The weather looks great with the exception of fog for the east entrance to the straits. If Robbin decides not to go I most likely will be coming by boat.
Is there anyone coming from Anacortes/San Juans that would like to cruise over Friday morning. Brock and company I will be monitoring channel 68, give me a call when you get wet.

Fred

Fred, I think the fog will be gone by Friday and for the weekend. The light wind will be coming from the NE and the wind waves are 1 foot or less. Sounds to me like 3 days of flat water, no fog and around 70 deg.
Everyone should be in for an awesome cruise. Have fun! :hot

Hey everyone, I just got this crazy idea. If the water is going to be as nice as I think it will be, what about crossing the big pond and invade Victoria? It's only about 20 miles over, and they should have free daytime moorage in front of the Empress Hotel. Just a thought.

Sounds good to us...we've never been to Victoria. We just need to get back in time for Brock's sing along..... :-). Catman - have you worked up a program yet?

I've been going around and around too but it's not if I'll go by water or land. For me it's land. I have thought about the launch at the park verses the marina and I think the park will win out since so many others will be water bond leaving lots of trailer space. Besides we may need an extra rig at the dock for shuttle purposes.
I plan on leaving here about 10AM tomorrow and should arrive there by about mid afternoon.
See you on the water unless we pass on the road.

Tim

Jon - I LOVE the idea, this is something I have wanted to do since I have had the boat...
